Pokemon Go

**** No disrespect intended - This is my semi-joking comments on the topic ****

I kinda want to figure out how to put these Pokemon at local "job fairs" so that all these people that have nothing better to do than play Pokemon would need to apply for a job.

Unemployment - Gotta catch`em all....

I just don`t get it:

Why isn`t regular ol` Real Life sufficiently interesting to keep anybody endlessly occupied?

Why does it take an electronic game to get people outdoors?

Why would anybody walk around distracted from their environment?

Don`t people have *better* things to do?

I just don`t understand why somebody would spend their time doing this. But eh, I`m that way about a whole lotta stuff that so many people spend time doing.

Short answer= fast paced lifestyles focused on working for money to consume consume consume, disconnecting us from enjoying the simple things.

I get your point, unfortunately we live in a technology driven society where parents are handing their kids electronic gaming devices over two times sooner than previous generations. I received my 1st gaming console when i was a pre-teenager, today, kids that can`t even talk yet are getting iphones and tablets mostly because parents don`t want to...you know...parent! (based on what i have personally noticed) . This addiction to technology affects both kids and adults.... kids want to be behind the TV playing, and nowadays you can play with friends online without having to leave the House, and adults are entertained in their own way from Home with gadgets/TVs etc... so it`s VERY easy to find tons of entertainment without having to leave the House.

I feel it can also be attributed to the fact that it`s not as safe for kids to be outside playing anymore like it used to be for everyone. I`m seeing more kids out up to no good rather than innocently hanging out just enjoying the outdoors. I grew up playing outside all day until those streetlights came on, and sometimes later than that (until my Mom started yelling at me to come in the House). When it comes to adults, well the world is made to be seem unsafer and unsafer every day where anyone can go nuts and take your life at any given moment without reason, so i don`t blame people for wanting to stay in and others going as far as getting anxiety over it.

Parents just need to not forget the beauty of non-electronic video gaming hobbies for their kids, back then , video games to me were something we used as a back up when it was rainy or when our friends were not available to hang out.... today it is mostly being used as a way to distract kids from "bothering" their parents. I`ve seen it way more times than not and it is a serious issue.

I guess comparing MAGIC to Pokemon , MAGIC being the classic way of socializing through a hobby without being glued to a screen, Pokemon has replaced the tactile cards and immediate interaction with a human being, with a phone`s screen. It`s a blessing(parents are taking their kids out for this=spending more time with them) and a curse(this is what it takes for people to get out more often) to me .

TroyScherer- Heh heh, that was good :D

And IMO you were plenty, uhm...nice and considerate...about how you expressed it. Heh heh, a lot moreso than I was about my opinion!

Migue- AFAIK, life is actually a lot *SAFER* for kids than it used to be, we`re just bombarded with Dreadful News Reportage 24/7. Relatively few kids used to make it to adulthood compared to these days ("have lots of kids because many won`t make it to adulthood" was an operating principle just a few generations ago).

My friends and in-laws with kids didn`t/aren`t going the Electronic Pacifier route, didn`t get `em SmartPhones./etc. (just minimal-feature phones for use only in emergencies, *real* emergencies), those kids *get it* with regard to priorities. I don`t think that`s a coincidence.

Right, and i should have stated that in the "kids section" the same way i did in the "adults section" by re- stating "the world is made to be seem unsafer and unsafer every day".

Yes, the kids being raised the way your friends are raising them DO get it, but the kids being raised by a lot( not everyone) of this younger generation of parents are the little zombies i`m referring to, which i see a lot when i`m out and about and even with people within my age group that i personally know. They think it`s cute seeing a toddler being enchanted by a tablet.

heisenberg- You mean because I post here a lot? Eh, I guess I can see the point, but at the risk of sounding full of myself, this is one of my means of "paying it forward"; I like to think that every now and then my contributions here are of some help to somebody.

And if I`m logged on, I`m in my study generally doing other stuff too, swapping my attention back and forth (as might sometimes be obvious when I goof up).

And IMO my Post Count oughta be taken with a grain (or a shakerfull) of salt ;)

Yeah. Point being you`re not wasting your time or anything if you`re enjoying yourself. People think we`re nuts because we spend more than 6 dollars a month to run our cars through automatic washes. I try not to worry too much about what other people are doing unless it negatively affects me.

After seeing some my neighbors finally walking around from playing this I decided to try it. Sometimes we all go together and I run into people playing it and I always say "catch anything?" Its pretty fun. Its a widespread epidemic like the Brony plague. Ive already become a Brony (If you don`t know, you probably don`t wanna know :notme:) about three years ago, why not play Pokemon as well? Ill leave all my badass moments for when I`m fixing cars or detailing them. At least with this so widespread and public, this is one of the things I don`t have to be secretive about. :funny::o

Can someone please give me a quick explanation on what this game is? So I know what is going on when I see news articles and when I hear people talking about it.

The cartoon back when us young adults were growing up was about kids exploring and finding these Pokemon creatures in the wild , having to battle them (by using their own previously captured Pokemon) before being able to capture them in these "pokeballs" . Eventually they`d run into other Pokemon Masters/Trainers and would challenge each other , have "gyms" etc etc.... There were trading cards and kids used to do table battles (like Magic The Gathering) using the card/creature`s abilities and such.

Basically this app is allowing people to sort of be real life Pokemon Trainers/Masters through a combination of using the software and roaming around in the real world.

My wife and I were discussing this yesterday....posting here is perhaps the closest I come to what most people think of as a "hobby".

People think we`re nuts because we spend more than 6 dollars a month to run our cars through automatic washes...

Yet people spend $ on stuff that yields no tangible benefit.

I try not to worry too much about what other people are doing unless it negatively affects me.

Same here. This Pokemon Go thing is negatively affecting me; the players are like...well, cartoon characters/zombies that cause me to adjust my life lest I collide with them (now they`re playing in places where I let the dogs run off-lead).

Nice to see someone else playing this game when I`m out and about. Makes it easier to have something to talk about with new people, rather than "oh what a great day it is...... its sunny out.....yeah"

Really enjoy playing! Me and my 8 year old son just walked around the block to try and find some. We had some other kids ask if we found any and it looks like he made some new friends while we were at it.

I`ve been walking more regularly and have been spending more time with my wife and son, which are positives. The negatives are that my legs are sore from all that walking and my head hurts from trying to figure out the rules to the game. But the positives outweigh the negatives.

Glad to hear something positive is coming of the game, sounds like you two are having fun with it...more power to you.

Again, glad to hear that. Yeah I was hating on it earlier in this thread, but if people are doing more active stuff with their kids (for any reason) that`s good news to me.
