Morning,

I have owned black trucks since the 60's, yea I know getting old1:0) I have always enjoyed keeping my trucks looking good but have done everything by hand and I am sick of the swirlies...I just purchased a new one and would like to change my ways. I also have been a cabinet maker and finish carpenter since the late 60's...So using orbit, rotary, belt and every other sander- power tool know to man is not uncommen for me!

I would like to be pointed to past or present threads for a couple of reasone....One to learm the best method of maintaining the "new" finish on the soon to be here ride and the other to help my a-6 2003 audi's finish...

thanks, Bill

hovbuild- Welcome to Autopia. Really work at learning the "right" wash/dry techniques. That's where most swirl-type marring comes from.

You might also search on "Cyclo" and "Makita", besides all the info about the Porter Cable unit. As you know from your carpentry, the right tools can make a job much easier.

For the A6, searching on "Audi" might be a good idea. I've done a lot with their cars, and the clear on them is pretty hard. It's easy to waste time and effort with the wrong approach.

Lots of "search on.." advice, I know, but I can't remember the specific threads that you'd find useful.

Welcome to Autopia hovbuild. :welcome

I agree with Accumulator. You will first want to focus on good washing/drying techniques and materials. All too often someone will swirl up their finish using an unsafe mitt (or maybe worse, sponge). That is where I would start. :)

Happy reading.
