Please help - Leather seat shows white after treatment

Hi all,



Below pics show a standard leather seat on a Porsche Cayanne S. I have always used only Leather Master Vital (conditioner) & Leather Master Proteciton Cream for many treatments. 2 days ago I tried out the Leather Master Strong Cleaner and noticed this white milky thing started to appear. However, it does go away as it dries...



The pics demostrate the problem, which I only applied to this small area for illustration purpose.



I was wondering if it has to do with the fact I apply conditioner/protection cream too frequently (twice a week)...although I only do a thin layer everytime...



Please help me and tell me if this is a big deal? Is my seat going bad?

I'm stumped. It would appear that 'something' is preventing the conditioner/protection cream from penetrating your protected leather.



The Strong Cleaner is on the rather alkaline side of the pH scale - maybe try a citrus based cleaner, which would be acidic... we might be surprised.



No question that you are overdoing it with the twice weekly application of the conditioner. It may not be causing the problem, but it is completely unnecessary.



By about 800%. Once a month should be plenty. Most cars of that caliber are conditioned once a year, if at all. And they look just fine.

I think you're right..something is preventing whatever I put on to penetrate. By the way, the pics were taken after I put the protection cream on....



So in the future, what should I put on it to protect it? I simply don't want the leather to dry out/crack... This kind of leather feels 'dry' all the time...

I know you are asking Jimmy, but I'd say that both NL from Poorboys and #108 from FK1 applied weekly have produced amazing results on BMW leather. I do take care of a black Cayanne but only several times a year.I steam the leather and apply NL. Seems to be moist and not dry looking/feeling.

You have to remember that automotive leather is usually always coated leather. It will not feel soft like uncoated leather. The coating is there to protect the leather in an extreme environment such as an automotive interior. When you are treating automotive leather, you are essentially treating the coating; some of the protectant/conditioner makes its way thourgh the coating and into the leather. You may have simply built up so much conditioner residue on the surface, especially since is appears very textured. The leather is going to crack from built up dirt and grim, which is acidic, combined with abrasion. Make sure you are cleaning the leather often; a damp MF is all thats needed. Apply conditioner a few times a year.

Brwill, will my leather crack because of 'too much conditioner'? What should I do now?

I read somewhere that over conditioning the leather can make it too soft and prone to the stiching easly ripping the leather

No, but it could cause the leather to get soiled faster because of the excess residue. I would clean with a mild cleaner and re-condition. After that wipe clean on a regular basis and condition a couple times a year.
 
Thank you for your replies, gentlemen... I think I just got fooled by these 'feels dry' leather seats. Our 1st German car you know...LOL...
 
I agree with too much conditioner making for excess residue drawing dirt, consequently working in reverse of the original purpose intended. And...leather master protection cream is a top of the liine product requiring less in application and has very good durability, so all the more reason to not use as often
