Please help, first time using Meg MF system, some questions!

So I took the plunge and bought the Meguiars MF system.

I am to detail a black 2004 Porsche Boxster. The paint is in "ok" condition, some light swirls, some RIDS and some slight holograms.

Here is what I have:-

-PC

-MF system 6"

I read as much as I could about using the PC with this fairly new system.

I guess some points are:-

-Wash car and clay. Use Dawn?

-Wash again to have a clean paint to start with

-Prime the MF pad and use only a rather small amount of product?

-Use a good amount of pressure?

-Clean pad constantly?

-After the first step wash again?

-How abut the secon step, any pointers?

-What would be a suggested LSP/Glaze?

Thank you all for your collective knowledge and help, much appreciated!

Washing with dishsoap is good before polishing just to strip everything off.

After priming, I found that only a small amount of product was required. If doing a section and, after inspecting, needed to do a spot again, I would press the pad against the paint (while the machine is off) and use whatever producted trafered from the pad. This was enough.

More pressure helps a lot, but use judgment. I find it harder to get great correction on curves and edges, since it's hard to put more pressure in those areas. Especially concave areas. Just practice.

Yes, clean the pad always, I'd clean the pad about 2-3 times per panel. Kind of annoying. I used compressed air and it worked very quickly. 3-4 seconds of blasting at about 60 PSI. I think a stiff brush would work well, too. And the instant blast of cinnamon smell is awesome!

I doubt you need to wash again after the first step. Maybe an IPA wipe down. I only did a 1 stage followed by IPA.

LSP seems to be a rather personal choise. Wax, sealant, carnauba, Cquartz... There are too many threads to summarize there. I used Duragloss 105 yesterday, nice sealant, easy to apply.

Good process.

I used it for the first time saturday. When they say less product is better they mean it. I used a toothbrush to clean mine 1 or 2 times a panel.

Keep your work area very small. Everytime I tried to tackle more the like 2'x2' section I had to back over because I wasn't thorough enough.

I used CG Black light and it worked good. I wish I would have used glaze and sealant instead but I didn't have the time.

Clean the pad after every panel. You should end up using 2 discs to cut and 2 discs to finish. I find compressed air to work best for me but a brush will do just fine.

You should have received a "how-to" poster with your kit. Follow those instructions and you will be fine.

As far as the LSP - if it's protection you are after the second step is a finishing wax meaning a polish and wax in one. If you want to amp up the gloss you can use a finishing polish such 3M ultrafina or CG EZ creme glaze. Just remeber if you go with a finishing polish you will want to follow up with a wax/sealant.

OK guys, my package arrived this afternoon and I could not wait.....

First, nice that they included the backing plate in the kit. And an apron to boot! Didn't expect that!

Washed, clayed, washed, dried and into the garage.

After priming I started with my PC on speed 3-4, moderate and sometimes a bit more pressure followed by some light pressure finishing passes, wipe with an MF towel and voila, nice! Paint feels almost like after using M105 with a foam pad. But the result! Very very nice, good correction, I was really surprised how easy to use this system is.

The second step is beyond easy! I did not do anything in between the 1st and 2nd step.

I used a brush to clean the pads after each use, seems to me the thing to do!

Now, some deeper defects will not go away entirely unless I miss something here? I still believe some M105 and a foam pad might be better for those cases follwed by the MF system.

I did a test section and checked in the sun and the results are really good, the paint came out darker and I'd say 90% plus defect/swirl free. Even my wife as the totally untrained immediately noticed the difference.

Compared to all the stuff I used before (various polishes, various pads etc etc) this MF system blew me away, so easy to use and very nice results!

I will post pics later.

Thanks again for pointers, comments welcome!
