Need some help, ok I got a brand new 2005 BMW 525i back in Feburary, the dealer left horrible swirls and buffer marks in the paint. I have finally gotten around to really getting at the car and removing the defects. I have a rotary and an assortment of edge pads, and compounds ranging from Menzerna,Meguiars, to Poorboys, I have buffed my Jeep before , which was pretty badly swirled, and it came out perfect doing DACP x1 and IPx1 and FPIIx1 with edge pads.

Today I went out washed with Hyper wash, taped off the door handles and all moldings and the BMW roundle. I started off with Edge Green pad, and Poorboys SSR2.5 (which I dislike). I dislike SSR2.5 because it doesn't stay wet long enough it seems to dry very quick even with the pad and painted misted. I then followd up Edge Blue and Menzerna IP and then Edge White with FPII. I went under the sun and still had marrying, which made my blood boil. I did the cross hatch on the hood with those 3 products, Im a little bit weary of using the rotary on BMW paint at higher RPM's so I stayed at around 1k, it took me a really long time to do the hood, which is normally doesn't take me that long.

I only did the hood, and then took off all the tape and put my toys away, I was disappointed and frusted it took me so long to do 1 panel and it still did not look anything close to my usual results.

What would you suggest I do, I am thinking of getting some Menzerna Power Gloss and maybe trading my Makita 9227C for a PC, because I don't really need the powerful bite of a rotary, I rarly do extremly bad cars.

Any suggestions out there, I mist the surface and pad and apply the compound to pad. I start off slow moving the compound around then increase RPM's I try to curve the pad as well and still get a serious amount of buffer splatter. What am I doing wrong here ?

Any suggestions or comments, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

According to Steve you shouldn't mist the pad when using the SSR's.
Maybe you should try it again without misting the pad. I am not to sure how hard the clear is on an 05 BMW, but it may require a second pass w/ SSR2.5 and then follow your normal process.

I wouldn't get rid of your rotary for a PC (especially if you know how to use it).

P.S.
I had to search for it, but check this link

Good luck,

I tried it at first without misting and it still dried sort of quick, I was working in the shade as well. Im also thinking the rotary is supierior, I have some time behind it, but I think a PC would be easier to use on cars that don't require very much bite.

My thought is product and pad choice. I'd use SSR3 if your going to use PB for a badly swirld car with a fine pad preferably. Or take a more agressive pad with your current product selection. I can't see the car, but it sounds like you just didn't hit it hard enough. If you wanna drive a ways I'm not too far away.

I used to frequent the Kenosha area, today I went out and did a full detail on my Jeep. I have never gotten it this clean, did engine, exterior. Process was: FPIIx1 with Meguiars soft buff finishing pad topped with 1xAIO + 1XUPP I will 1 more coat of Upp tommorow. My new favorite product has got to be Hyper Dressing, stuff works amazingly well.

I have better control of the buffer now and I find that Menzerna FPII does not splatter so much as other products I have used. I buffed the entire time at 1000-1200RPM's and have 0 buffer marks.
