Please HELP. Can someone tell me what i'm dealing with here?

hello, i'm a newbie to this forum and to detailing so I don't know what exactly i'm dealing with here, hence not using the search button (because i don't know what to search).



This is on a friend's 97 bmw e39 5 series. Please have a look at the lower portion of the trunk lid.



What's the diagnosis here? Thank you!!

definitely is not bird droppings.

Paintwork is completely sun damaged beyond repair. Your friend will need to repaint to repair.

Dead clearcoat, time to send it to the bodyshop for a refinishing of the panel.

Yep, clearcoat failure. Not much you can do with it. The 15 yr old paint job is done. Time for a respray.

Lot of "cloudiness" there as well, not long for this world.
