please answer about PBMG products

This was my first foray into high end detail products, and had already placed a $200 order with Autopia, which Todd was a big help with on the phone. Wasn't bashing anyone else's products, just a simple question.

You have a good point. There's one vendor, not sold here, that has terrible testing and after the release date, is constantly making tweaks, fixes, improvements, etc, based on user feedback. Some products have so many "versions" that it makes people confused as to which version they have. That is the exact opposite of how it should be run. Do the testing before release.

PBMG has done two things here

1) Developed their own line of car care products, under the name of their choice
2) Brought out a competitive line of car care product, such as Wolfgang & Pinnacle.

Companies like PBMG buy competitive lines because they are taking market share, it's done across many industries. In almost all cases they leave the brand name alone, because it's a profitable company.

One of the largest to do this is Proctor and Gamble, have a look at the products they own;)
 
i have worked in manufacturing plants most my life as an electrician.i have seen lots of products being made and have worked to build alot of these line systems that produce the end product.at the end of alot of these lines there are packages for several different stores that sale the `same product` with different labels.so it does happen when a chain store sells different products at different price point they cover the market. wal-mart gets its store brand from most of the top makers same as there brand just walmart labels
 
Correct me if I'm wrong...and I know you will (GRIN)

I believe...they are different products and...

Pinnacle is marketed towards American cars
Wolfgang is marketed towards European cars
Detailers Pro is marketed less expensive/bulk
 
There's a difference between a product being "marketed" towards a certain segment of consumers and the products being relabels of another product.

For what it's worth, I've used AG house brands - started with them back 7-8 years ago. I wasn't saying there aren't differences in "some" products - I was commenting on common items like QD's, Cleaners, some polishes - all the same with different labels. Once, I got some free samples of leather cleaners - from 2 different house brands, you could NOT tell the difference.
Want more old boy? - the former guv-ment motors:
Chevy Nova = Pontiac Ventura = Buick Apollo = Olds Omega
same crap, different badges, I know, I had a few and I spent a couple years of my youth sanding cars at a body shop.

Does anyone think these brands are all made by different factories? No, they aren't, they're made to spec in 1 factory, same as many other companies do and are re-labeled and sold. Nothing wrong with that and I never said nor tried to imply that there was.
 
Chemical Guys markets a petroleum line of goods and a green line of goods (Smartwax).

Different customers - different lines - different goals - different results.

The worst offender was the Dodge/Plymouth Neon. Pretty much the only difference was the badge the stuck on it at the end of the production line. Hell, they couldn't even come up with a different name!!

Frankly, for all we know many of the products may be very similar with minor changes and all from the same vendor. I have found the Wolfgang label to be above most in performance but that's my take. Yours may differ. This is one of those situations where no one can ever prove which is the better product. It is a balancing game to offer SO MANY products and put them in some kind of quality order. Such is the job of an experienced retailer be it online or in a brick & motar store.
