plastic snow scraper marks???

Canadians are shopping at motorhead.net because they have good customer service for Canadians. The products are half decent and they do carry Klasse etc... I have surfed the vwvortex site and a lot of Canadians have purchased from motorhead.net because the prices are very reasonable and the first order shipping charge is free. They only had to resort to motoread.net because they had no choice. The shipping charges are very reasonable and they use USPS service. I just believe that if motorhead.net can ship to Canada with good shipping charges then CMA should be able to. But if TACS or other e-tailers that ship to Canada get to distribute BlackFire then CMA will lose our business.

I just bought my new black car back in December. And this past week maryland got dumped on by a ton of snow.....My little girl was helping to clean off the car.....I did not know this.......anyway the plastic scraper has left marks all along the car. I'm sure this can be easily removed but any idea how or what to try first?

Thanks

Dave

Once the car is washed clean, try claying the affected area. If the marks are caused by plastic left on the paint by the scraper, the clay will remove them. Then simply finish the area with whatever wax or sealant you use (or do the whole car if you haven't used any) and you're finished.

However, I'm betting it won't be as simple as that. If the scraper actually damaged the paint rather than leaving plastic on it, then you'll have to polish it out - likely with a machine rather than by hand.

I agree with RootsRadical. You will most likely have to polish out the damage. How bad is the damage? If you post some pics, we might be able to help you better.

BTW, welcome to TID

Hey Dave... X3 on polishing the marks out. Do you have a polisher? If not, I'd recommend Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0, available on-line at www.properautocare.com or at most Auto Parts Stores. Apply a small amount (pea-size) on a foam applicator pad and rub onto the scratch with moderate pressure. Should remove the marks.:cornut:

Thanks I will give the clay bar a try first.
Since the weather has not been the greatest I will give the clay bar a try on one scratch to see what happens......

Thanks again
Dave

Welcome to TID SunDaze, Bill is right about trying Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0 by hand if you don't have a polisher yet, let us know how it turn out.......:wizard:

When using ScratchX 2.0, be sure to actually work the product in and not just simply wipe it on and off. I would also apply it with a foam or microfiber applicator pad. Be sure to wax the affected areas afterwards as well since ScratchX 2.0 does in fact remove wax.

Even if you cannot completly remove the defects, you will at least be able to dramatically improve them. Be sure to keep us updated.

Best of luck.

By the looks of the picture, it doesn't look like a scratch. As you stated, it looks like remnants of the plastic scraper are left on the paint. If the ScratchX doesn't work, try Megs Ultra Compound. You can use either of these by hand. Good luck!

Thanks for all of the input?
Yesterday I went and bought a clay bar. This morning I cleaned a small area on the car to see the results of the clay bar. I was disappointed. I just sort of dulled the scratch. While I was out, my neighbor came over to see what I was doing?.he looked at the marks then said he had something that would work. He returned from his garage with an applicator pad and Klasse All-In-One. Rubbed the mark and yippee it was gone. He is a new neighbor, so we chatted awhile about cars and cleaning?.Anyhow he said when I?m ready to do a full cleaning of the car he would lend me his buffer and point me in the right direction. Needless to say I?m fired up about detailing the car. Just waiting for snow to melt and some free time. I figure mid-March I should be out cleaning??In the mean time I will be reading and learning as much as possible?.while putting together a shopping list??Here is a picture of the car when I brought it home??I?ll post before and after photos when I get her cleaned.

To the OP, glad to hear it worked out for you. It was plastic scraper remnants on the paint vs. an actual scratch, which is why the AIO worked so well (the cleaning action just dissolved the remnants on the paint). Nice car BTW.

Good to hear KAIO took care of your marks. One thing you mentioned set off alarm bells in my head:

Anyhow he said when I?m ready to do a full cleaning of the car he would lend me his buffer and point me in the right direction.

If your neighbor has a DA polisher this could be a good thing. If he has a "buffer", as in rotary, I wouldn't expect him to turn you loose on your black car. The combination of a rotary in inexperienced hands and a black finish can produce some unpleasant results. :scared:

In the mean time I will be reading and learning as much as possible?.

This is a good thing.

Thanks TL

I will keep this in mine when I talk with him more.
