I am getting ready to start up my own mobile detailing business and have decided to attend the seminar that Detail King holds in Pittsburgh every month in hopes of fine tuning my detailing skills and perhaps learn new techniques in the process. They will also be going over the business aspect of this profession, such as how to get started, marketing strategies and so forth.

Has anyone attended this already? If so, how was it?

I actually went to that seminar back in june it was good the first day your in a class room like enviromment and the second day your at there training facility where that teach you hands on. I will tell you that you should take all the notes you can on the first day and also on the second day when there demonstrating after they break you in groups to show you the steps to detail a car get in there and try everything don't be shy get all the experience you can get. From my experience at the seminar the main thing they want to do is get all these fresh minds to believe they can do this and sell there equiptment. I will advise you to go there to get hands on training and knowledge and just bring that home there machines buffers and other equiptment can be bought elsewhere for alot cheaper. they also have there own product line that they are going to try to push on you I will tell them no and come up here and see what people are using day in day out that really works for the short period of time I've been on this forum I have heard none of the people thats doing the top detail jobs using there products well good luck and just take in the experience.

Do you feel buying there videos would be just as good as going to the weekend seminar??

I would say yes but alot of people might benefit more from being somewhere that somebody could answer questions that you come up with while the video is going.

Pro's and Con's to everything. I'd like to hear what they say about marketing detailing?

I think its a good class but like I said they are really just trying to push there products on you while they got you there and your fresh in starting your business and you haven't been looking around and talking to people about what you can get for your money. In the class part they give alot of helpful tips and they have people that took the seminar before come back and talk on how they been doing and what works. At the time I took the class I had the money and went for it I feel that it was not neccesary for me to be succesfull but it made me feel comfortable in a few areas and realizing I could do this. If what you want to know is how to market detailing I say get books or dvd's on it or just ask questions up here to get the same info minus the time and money you will spend for the seminar.

Your local US Small Business Administration office is always a good source for free information in regard to helping you start and grow your own detailing business. I am sure they would help you create you own workable marketing strategies. And the best part is, there is never a fee for their services.

Yes, I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, but the hands-on training is what appealed to me also. I'm curious to see firsthand what the pros techniques are and to actually try it for myself. Not to say that I am unhappy with the way I conduct my details, but maybe I can perhaps further improve my efficiency and effectiveness and learn something new as well.

FWIW, I did order this book that pertains strictly to the business of auto detailing and how to ensure its success for the aspiring entrepreneur...
