My wife's 2003 Acura TL-S headlights are fogged and I came across Pittmans and the great reviews. And even for $40 for a small amount, if it did what says, it's cheaper than the $120 we paid the Acura dealer two years ago only to have it fogging a year later.
My hesitation with Pittmans was that no reputable dealer sells the stuff so I went searching for reviews and found this site. This particular thread convinced me to stay away from the ALR. Instead I went to the local auto store chain and selected the Meguiers kit ($26) that comes with with the PlastX and the drill buffer mainly for the buffer attachment.
I used it tonight and it worked very well. I attached the buffer to a Craftsman 19.2 cordless right angled drill, and in no more than five minutes and four nickel sized daubs of the plastx liquid per headlight lens, the cloudy lenses buffed crystal clear. Now, I am looking for light transmission and not a perfect surface. The lenses still have pits upon close inspection - I imagine the multi-step sanding process would do a better job bringing it close to showroom smooth. But as far as lens clarity, this buffing-compound method worked great. The auto store did not have any sort of UV spray, and I'm not sure I need to be breathing that in from the warnings I've seen. So I assume I'll have to re-do this process every 3-6 months, but it's quick and there's plenty of product left to last the life of the TL.
I had before and after photos but as a new member I don't have access to post. Oh well.
Thanks for steering me away from the snake oil.
