Pitting with SSR polishes

I remeber seeing more than a few threads on here in the past where people have had trouble with the SSR polishes and a PC combo. Does anyone know what causes it, or if its something that occurs frequently? I was thinking of getting the SSR polishes for the ease of use for beginner polishers, but I do not want to use it if it's hit or miss on the problems that others have had with it.

I don't think it will cause any "pitting," though you will notice some micromarring via a dual action polisher because the abrasives "gouge" back and forth and don't break down fully.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the SSR stuff or is a matter of the paint on the vehicle

I'd never encountered it until I started my (never ending  ) M3 project. I've used H-T EC/rotary and got the "pitting effect" big time in two places: the repainted hood (really, really bad...I'll have to get it repainted) and the front part of the roof (not nearly as bad but still unacceptable). I figure it's a matter of bad repainting ("solvent pop", my painter says that sounds possible) on the hood and weird stone chipping (think about how a bb gun puts a hole in a glass window- small on the side of impact, big on the other side...a conical type of hole) on the roof, but that's just my layman's guess.

Has this been a problem with all SSR polishes? I thought it was only happening with SSR 2.5. I've had it happen on original paint.

I have never had that problem myself(but I do remeber reading the same info as you)

with the SSR's and I used them for several years

but trust me on this you will be much happier with

Danase Swirl Abolishers they are just as easy for the beginer

dust alot less and are only a few dollars more

EDIT: I thought I told you about this before

http://autopia.org/forum/machine-polishing/100257-tips-new-guy-using-ssr-polishes-7424-a.html?

Whoops, I forgot I asked this a while back.

How are the Danase Swirl Abolishers in terms of cut compared to the SSRs? Is the Swirl Abolisher 1 as agressive as the SSR1, and the same for SA2 and SSR2?

Also, would you happen to have any pictures you could post showing the Danase SA results? I'm curious on how it finishes.

That's what I thought also that most cases I've heard of were with 2.5.

Is there really that much of a difference between 2 and 2.5 in terms of cut and the chemical makeup?

I'm curious, when did you notice the pitting Accumulator? Was it after 2.5, 2, or 1?

Sorry, I wasn't clear :o

I've never used the SSR stuff, I had the "rotary-exposed pitting" after using H-T EC and H-T HC.

That's why I wondered if it had anything to do with the *product* as opposed the the *paint*. IMO in this case I coulda been using any of my other compounds and I still woulda had the same thing once I'd taken off enough clear.

I've used SSR 2.5 and SSR 1 numerous times without any problems and with very good results.

Obviously the finish (paint) you are working on, pad and method can alter your results. I have never had concerns and have used them on several vehicles without a problem.

I had some pitting after using them on my truck. I used 2.5 and 1, not sure which on it was that caused it. I've switched to Menz now because they are better overall IMO. And I 'm using a PC, if that makes any difference.

I think the red car was SA2 &SA1

and the blue was SSA3, SSA2, SSA1

I did a review with more info but it looks like it's gone now

I've never experience this, but you're probably right on the defective paint issue...I just can't see how a particular polish would be at fault.

Ive had it happen on a Porsche with 2.5. I never went back to it........

Wow. That's crazy stuff. I used SSR 2.5 several times, but ultimately dropped the line for other superior polishing products...I just never figured out what all the hype was about on this stuff, as I always kinda liked the Menzerna abrasives, a lot.
