Pinnacle Souveran Problems or Detailing Experience

Hi guys, I've been using Souvy for about 9 months or so now, along with other products (Collinite CDE, Klasse, Meg's, and waxes that the company I work for produces (Advanced Car Care Products). The one thing I noticed about the Souveran, regardless of how well I prepped the car, including wool-foam-foam-3m hand glaze-wax, was that it left the finish more or less 'rough' feeling.

Whereas polymer products, like Klasse, which leave the finish silky-smooth, buttery-smooth, or glass-like smooth (I believe there IS a difference), the souveran feels a bit rough to me. Has anyone ever felt this way about this product? I love the visual effects of the wax, but I believe detailing is an experience. And touching my car is part of that experience. On leather int's, I use a conditioner with leather scent, citrus carpet spotter, and have moved away from the vinagear/IPA glass cleaner. As an end-user, pinnacle is one of my fav products, because of it's aroma and ease of use.

Sorry i got a little OT, so this is pretty much an open thread. Just want some more opinions from other users.

That's odd. I've never experienced that in all the times I've used Souveran. Infact, the cars I use it on usually get touched a lot afterward because everyone seems to love the smoothness they feel. I wonder what could be causing this. I've used Souveran over polishes, sealants, other carnauba waxes as well as just layered it over itself and never had anything but a smooth to the touch feeling. I hope someone will chime in with an answer to this...

I think I know what your saying. I have been using it for 2 months now.

I absolutely believe it is the best carnuba I've used. I have gotten so many compliments on all 3 of my cars.

But it does leave the car not real smooth. It's smooth, but its not slippery smooth when I'm wiping with a MF.

Make sense?

I'm still new to the Souveran experience, but I found that it left the finish more smooth than the other carnaubas on the shelf. That said, on the vehicles that only receive two coats of sealant (i.e. light metallics & pearls) there really is no comparison. It's one of the reasons I still love Four Star UPP.

Until recently, I hadn't been able to justify the expense of Souveran, and I only used it in this one case because the customer wrote the check. Nonetheless, I think I'm going to have to buy some - I was really impressed. Sorry to hear you're not getting the same results.

eyesack- For me, Souveran is smooth enough when first applied, but does lose that quality quite quickly.

I woulda mentioned the need for good prep, but if the other products are smoother then that sorta rules that out

Different products simply feel/look/etc. *different* :nixweiss

Ever try Pinnacle's Paintwork Cleansing Lotion? I do like using PCL before Souveran (though my experiences are mainly with the older version of PCL). AutoGlym SRP is another product that seems unsually good as a pre-Souveran step.

If you are used to sealant products, then yes, pretty much any carnuba will not feel as slick. And I've always found, when using micro-fiber, that carnuba will also make some static electricity (which accounts for the dust magnet). Anyhow, when I do a carnuba job, I go over it will FK1 425 spray, which not only removes the static charge, but also gives a slick feeling more like a sealant. Just my .02

aaah, so maybe I'll try a product that eliminates the static. Thanks guys! btw, my prep is: thorough wash with Dawn, clay-bar, wash, compound/polish/light polish, wash, Klasse AIO, then layer on the souvy.

Well, if you are used to sealants like Zaino, your bar for slickness is set high. IME, souveran has an oily soft feel, similar to most other "beauty waxes" that for the most part lose their unique look after a wash or a period in the elements.

I totally understand your differentiation of tactile qualities. Souveran, doesn't feel dry and glass slick, it feels wet to me, like I'm pushing around oil.

When I've used Liquid Souveran it feels very slippery. Yeah, its durability is suspect but for a while its very slick for a nuba...Applying a QD like FK425 does help extend the slippery feel.

There does seem to be a real difference in how the different LSP's feel. Generally, it seems like sealants feel more slippery than waxes. How a wax "feels" is how I usually tell how well it's cured. If it's not slippery yet, it's not cured. Once it's cured, I do a final wipe down with a dry MF, or I take a refrigerated spray bottle of distilled water to do a spit shine. Some waxes this makes a big difference on, others not so much. The Collinites really do benefit from the cold water spray spit shine. Usually waxes will be much more slippery after either the final wipedown or spit shining.

i plan to do the same exact thing, except no, dawn wash (onr ftw)

would this be better than using sonus paintwork cleaner then pinnacle?

or does KAIO provide a good enough base?
