Pink stuff the dealers and production detailrs use??????????

Ok, we have been to a few local detail shops and a dealer recon shop. All of them have been using this magical pink liquid. They have all been in unmarked bottles so I can never tell what it is. The detailers throw this stuff all over the car then goes over the car with a cheapo local department store buffer and wipes it off, and the dealers recon center uses a highspeed. I found this on Top Of The Line today and sort of think this is what they are using...or something very similar http://www.topoftheline.com/32ozpainswir.html



My question is this...Is this crap? Look at the price! Is this just something the production detailers use to save on money cause the average Joe won't be able to tell between this stuff or something that cost $50 a gallon?



Any input would be helpful....thanks in advance.
 
I don't think that car dealers would even pay that much for product. It would be interesting to find out, but I think you are giving dealer prep departments too much credit by thinking they would actually shell out the dough for TOL products. I could be wrong, and I am sure my opinion of dealerships in general is biased a little - towards the incompetent side...
 
It's just to get the car shiny for sale, not to get the car shiny to keep.



EVERYTHING is pink. I went back to the parts department and looked, and we have pink stuff from MG Products and pink stuff from Distinctive Detail. I was kinda hoping that one of the pink things would be FD, but no such luck.

Dealers today seem to throw a hand full of sand on the roof then hit it with a rotary running wool. Sling onto the hood and trunk is good enough for them. By that time the pad is "loaded" and then they add swirl marks to the verticals.:scared :nixweiss :grrr :down :mad:

This is the hard part of detailing...we have to make it a point to instruct the customer as to why they are paying a little more for us to detail their vehicles as opposed to Ole' pink stuff down the street.
 
I think most dealerships call it "make ready" wax. Its not Hi Temp PPG but its similar. Who knows exactly what that stuff is. I think most every bulk products mfr makes the same stuff in pink; its kind of a universal color for that type of product. I'll bet "make ready" wax in pink is in the prep area of every car dealer in America.
 
I used to work in the make ready department at a large dealership the pink stuff you are talking about is made by carbrite, it is not very good wax, we mainly used it to take glue off of windows and to take off waterspots on dark colored vehicles
