You probably saw my post about buying a new car.
I'm only 6 weeks from my back surgery and the surgeon told me to not detail my car for 4 months but when I got home I noticed bugs on the front and their was no way I could leave them on their so I sprayed it with S&W and cleaned them off but the S&W turned into a white milk like substance and was hard to wipe off and wanted to streak.

I told them not to do anything to the car but I suspect that they put something on it because I never had this problem before but I have always used it on top of a wax or sealant.
Would it do this on bare paint if not then they did not do as I ask because I told them not to touch it.:wall

I can't wait till I can do a full detail on it but for the next couple months I will just use S&W and keep it clean.

I wanted your opinion om this because I think they did not follow my request and that pisses me off. :passout:

:hmmm::hmmm: did your towel drag? I would say the S&W is attacking some of the cosmolene(sp) protectent on the car that will need to be polished or clayed off ...if I was a guessing man :notme: you might try Bug Squash which in a stronger than 3:1 version should be able to penetrate the coating and take the bugs off too ... other than that, I'd have to see it myself and that might be pretty hard from Florida :cool:
 
Is cosmolene used on a painted surface? I think it is used for bare metal parts. My guess would be that it might be some remaining adhesive used to attach the plastic protection sheet.

it is the adhesive that the plastic rests on ;)

Never heard of it used on painted surfaces or as an adhesive. It was used on engine bays and undercarriage parts. Bare metal components as a rust preventative. Same with firearms.

Its a pain to get off in most cases. The dealers don't do a good job removing the stuff and if they do its a mess in most cases. They do sell a product made for removal but I don't recall who makes the stuff. I would think clay or apc should do the trick.:idea

What about using 3M adhesive remover?

Goo Gone for that matter might be a solution...I've not removed any the new car stuff, but have removed tons of heavy type of adhesives from cars, and the two I have mentioned have worked just fine for me!
 
Well the part that I cleaned looks good now maybe the S&W removed what was on and that is why it looked like milk.
I'm not able to do anything yet Doctor told me to wait 4 months and it has been 6 weeks.

I have appointment Monday morning at Ziebart to get it rustproofed.
I'm sure it will have a mist of that stuff all over it when they are done.

Dave may have a good idea after the Z treatment use the 3M then wash and clay then polish.
The next couple months will be hard I can't wait to get to work on it and make it look like it should.

I may do a little light wet sanding on the back it has slight orange peel and with Black it shows.

I believe it is also the term they use for auto-protection during transport ...
a quote from the wiki ... " Objects the size of entire vehicles could be preserved for future use with cosmoline."

although the material maybe slightly different ...

as long as it comes off Bart that is what is important ... you never know what is on there and how another product will react to it ;)
 
BMW uses cosmoline before xport. It still drains/melst/streaks from the areas of like the side view mirrors on my wifes car .
 
It was on my Tacoma pretty heavy in places. I did a wash with Dawn and presoaked with Bug Squash full strength the very first wash. Seemed to work fine at removing most of the stuff, with the exception of a few lingering spots of white something.
