Pimp Juice (M101) correction 2010 Red Corvette by Peachstate Detail of Atlanta, GA

I tried the link for the DB but there was no image for me to be able to actually see it.

If you dont mind my asking, what is the advantage of having the rotary as a DA when using D300? I thought it was better when used a lower speeds?

Also, about how many passes were you having to do each section? I know usually 5-6 is the norm, was just wondering if that changed by using the DB?

And how many times did you have to do each section to get that level of correction?

Yes you did post what size pads you were using, sorry lol. :frusty: I guess what I was just wondering how you did any tight areas with only 5" pads?

Some real interesting info...hope you dont mind all the ?'s lol. thanks again.

Charlie was kind enough to answer most of your questions.

As far as the amount of passes, I dont really recall. I dont really keep count.

The hazing with the Flex has more to do with the MF pad not being as well suited to the forced rotation than it has to do with the D300 IME; the DB can operate in either a forced-rotation mode like the Flex, or in a "free rotating spindle assembly" mode like a PC. So when I'm using a MF pad, I stick to the free-rotation mode of the DB and it does a great job.

Very cool. How do you choose between forced rotation and free spindle? Do you think i could bother you for a few pictures of the set up or a video? You guys really have me interested lol. Also, is it difficult to use on vertical panels or best used on horizontal ones?

There's a toggle switch on the unit. Here's basically what it looks like out of the box:

I've used mine to correct entire vehicles, including fairly curvy ones like Porsches and Corvettes. No problems.

Charlie, can you post a couple pic of the Dynabrade on your rotary - you know- side view, front, etc. I would like to see this as well as I'm sure everybody else on the fence here would.

Thanks

The only pic I have uploaded currently is from last summer when I had a member from another forum visit my shop for training:

Dynabrade.jpg

In that particular pic it's set up on a HF rotary and has a W68DA backing plate and W-8207 polishing pad mounted to it.

I'll have to get some others shot so I can post.

The DB does not feel heavy at all and it is very smooth at higher speeds.

Here is a pic of the dynabrade mounted to my Flex L 3403 VRG with a Meguiars BP and 6" MF pad.

Thats something i really like to hear. I have a Vette i'm doing Saturday, so i know i can't get it in time for it (though i do have a couple other goodies i'll be trying out on it), but if you can do entire cars with it, that might just be what puts me over the edge lol.

Do you find the correction you get with it just as good as you would get with a straight rotary...or somewhere inbetween a regular DA and straight Rotary set up? I really like using my MF pads to cut with so thats great to see you can use them on it. What is the smallest BP you can use with it?

It's not a rotary (with regards to pure brute-force material removal), but it's closer to a rotary than to a traditional DA.

5" is the smallest I'd suggest going. The safety margin with a 4" or 3" pad is just not there; the Dynabrade head would be larger than the backing plate and pad so you wouldn't even see what is actually happening under it while buffing.

That makes sense, dont wanna have a pad slip to the side on you or catch an edge w/that big thing by using a pad that is too small. I read on AG you thought that the Flex has a slight edge in leveling capability over the DB/Rotary combo...do you still feel that way?

I've been using the DB more and more since then and at this point I would say no, both are just about equal in that regard.

Well thats good to know. Do you go to the Flex very often anymore for anything...or is the DB your main approach to compounding now. I might have to go on and get it lol

I don't even remember the last time I used my Flex; I'll probably pick up the 4" backing plate for it so I can use spot pads, but for the most part my DB and G110v2 get all the action.

EDIT: And in other news, sorry your thread got completely hijacked and massacred Bryan! :yuck:

Yeah now i have to get it lol...i might try the new flex BP too if it gets good reviews, which id imagine it would.

And yes sorry Bryan! :wall

Gentlemen, feel free to discuss at will.

Working on a 2010 carbon black M5 today. 101 and DB coming thru again!

Bryan how would you compare using your DB attachment on the Flex 3403 compared to the Makita if you have tried that combination ? I have both but put the DB on my makita thinking the Flex may be too light to handle the added motion or action of the DB. I realize it may just be my perception.

Paul, The light weight flex L3403 VRG is the only rotary I have right now. I think it handles it fine at speed 5.75, at the lower speeds (1 or 2) it has too much added motion. I polished all of the right side panels today with it, seemed very easy to handle on the vert. panels.

Can't wait to get the Dewalt and DB.

How much time would you save per paint correction detail with your DB setup vs DA? Just an estimate.

Thanks for the info. I'll give my Flex a try.
