Pics of my tyre black (paint)

To each his own.....but Hemi57 that just looks bloody awful....nothing worse than high gloss tyres imho. For me, it has to be matt finish.

mickg, well as you say each to their own. All I can say is I get favourable comments from other revheads who see my car and it seems a common practice to get the gloss look when car manufacturers display their vehicles. Even non-car people say, "oooow, new tyres" :)

I especially like the strobe effect you get on the fine line highlights that tyre makers put on the sidewall. You can see this in the last TT wheel picture I added.

So, why are you even posting in the thread. If you don't like something it is better to keep your mouth shut.

Hemi57, your tires are looking good! Just the shine I like.

When I worked for the transportation department in high school, we used something similar to coat the wheels on the school buses at the end of the summer.

The tires did look pretty good and it seemed to last a pretty long as well.

I will call the guy that purchased all of the supplies and figure out exactly what he used. It has been nearly 10 years since we used the stuff, but it is possible it is still around.

Okay, I found a bit on the Polyglaze web site where you could email their experts. Have asked for US distributor info and cost of shipping to the US as single orders and in bulk. I will post the reply on this thread if and when I get one. I really want to try that stuff. 2 months durability and no sling!.....got to give it a go if I can get my hands on some without breaking the piggybank.

CutNAction, the product is called Polyglaze Tyre Black. It is a water based "paint" which drys quite shiny as you can see. And yes it lasts like that for a couple of months (maybe even longer) unless you scuff the tyre on a gutter. I think it is made by Selleys.

Rain, washing (I use a pressure washer) and detergents don't worry it.

Inzane, you have lost me with that one (SLING??)

Hey mail everyone on this thread a can, send a fosters with it.:D

AutoNova, nah, Aussies really don't drink that stuff, it is for you guys overseas.

The most popular brew here is VB, Victoria Bitter, made by the same company that makes Fosters.

This is going back a few years, but I remember that No. 7 used to make a product called Tire Black that was just carbon black in some type of petroleum smelling liquid. It came in a small silver paint can (pint I think) and you would put it on the tires with a rag or brush. It produced a matte-to-satin sheen. It fell out of favor, at least in my circle of friends, when Armorall came out because Armorall had a nicer, more "natural" look to it.

Perhaps it or an updated version of it is still availible here in the U.S.

And if you don't like what someone else has to say then it may be better if you kept your mouth shut.......

I did write imho, which, I thought I was entitled to.......

The Polyglaze tyre black is a pretty cheap and easy to get product in Australia. I did use it a fair bit a while ago but not recently....might be time to re-visit! :D

500ml ( ~17 ounces ) for A$6.65 ( ~ US$5 )

Shipping to the states will be the killer. I cant believe we have a product you all want! LOL It usually the other way around. :p

Tyres look great Hemi57 :xyxthumbs

6cyl's_of_fury, you are spot on about the local price, that is what I paid at Repco, for my spare can. It is not always on the shelf though, that is why I keep a spare on hand.

You got a chuckle outta me about "I can't believe we have a product you all want", cool eh?

Note to all members, when I said it lasts about 2 months, that is extremely conservative. I would probably recoat every 4 to 6 months, depending on if I or my wife touches a gutter/kerb. Really great value.

Also, I handy hint I learnt about years ago, before putting the lid back on any can of paint, expell your breath into the can. This pushes out the oxygen (which the paint requires to cure/dry) with your carbon dioxide. The product will last forever and should not form a skin.

Welll...It's been over a week since I emailed these guys and I haven't heard anything. Maybe one of the Aussie members would ship us some.

Make sure you thouroughly degrease your tires before using this product or the results won't be very good. I reccomend APC 4:1.
