Okay, so these aren't pictures of a fantastic detail job. But this is the first step for me and my new car!

Here's some pictures from my recent stone guard install. That's confident looking guy in the pictures is not me, that's a professional, Rob Freeman at Maryland ProformAuto. Rob is a real pro, and did an incredible job for me.

Starting with the hood:

Hood's done, close up at the right angles, you clearly see the seam:

Bumper/spoiler work:

Fenders get covered. I don't have the pictures, but the headlights and foglamps all got 40mil coverings:

Dooredges get done, as well as leading edge of mirrors:

Last touch ups, you can clearly see the fender protection seam here:

That's a really good job. That front end has lots of curves. How much was it for a job like that, if you don't mind me asking? FWIW, I got it done for my wife's white WRX, but only on the hood and fenders. He did the mirrors, but the work was unsatisfactory, so we agreed that I didn't have to pay for them.

$995 for the complete kit and labor, and he warrenties his work for the life of the car. Anything lifts or peels and he replaces no charge.

I feel much more comfortable driving now, especially on the highway.

what product is that ? is it armourfend (3M) ? or somone else just curious. thanks in advance.

I think most of the kits use 3M plastic, as does this one. This kit is designed by X-Pel, which this installer swears by. Seems like there are lots out there with different design approaches to each vehicle.

Glad to see you have paint film!

I have Armorglove on my Lexus SC-430 which people can read here: Armorglove

This new finish seems very prone to stone chipping.

Since they apply it to most high-end cars in my area, I did the same thing! Hood, Frond bumper/air-dam, headlights, fender wings, side mirrors, rocker panels, door cups.

You can view my SC430 in the gallery. MY SC430 WITH ARMORGLOVE

On light color cars it's easier to see the film as oppoed to dark finishes.

I'm a big believer of paint protection film! Worth every penny!

Just clean it with a plastic cleaner/polish and I apply wax right on it. Just be carefull of the edge! Pain in the but when wax gets in it!

Regards,

Deanski

That is great for protection, but man, the edge of the plastic film is VERY visible in all pictures. I thought that stuff was suppose to be basically invisible, except from a certain angle????????

For my Armorglove, I highlighted the edges with wax, otherwise it IS hard to see where it ends.

Lighter cars show up more.

Deanski

My application was installed by Armorglove. Some was customer work.

They DO have full kits as well.

I'm intrigued by these products. From looking at the X-Pel (http://www.xpel.com/) and the Armorglove (http://www.armorglove.com/) websites the kits seem reasonably priced at ~$200 for a complete kit for most vehicles.

Is applying this stuff something that should only be attempted by a professional? I'm assuming it would sort of go on like window-tint...where it's workable (can slide it around, start over if need be, etc.) during the application but eventually sticks to the car as it dries completely.

Just curious...

Nice BMW...hope this stuff has no hidden downside.

Mine is hardly visible on White Accord, but agree it is even better on darker colors. Mine covers the "front hood" / "Front sides" about 6" from the wheel well and complete front bumper.....$350 using 3m by the best shop in town.....$500 w/ 3m tinted windows. (Didn't do the headlights, mirrors etc.)

I had my Armorglove installed by Armorglove themselves.

Since they have the proper tools, handle it all the time and can properly do the job that can be somewhat a difficult task, I decided that this was the best way to have it done!

There are special tools needed and skills for the large items.

Headlight kits on the other hand, can be a bit easy, but again, I'd rather let the people who always do this handle it.

It was money well spent.

For all of the product and labor, it was $1000.00 and they went to the Lexus dealer to do the install.

If I was in your position, and you really love your finish, I'd let them handle it.

Regards,

Deanski
