Pick a QD from the list...

I have a dark gray metallic paint (which I use a sealant on), and would like to know which QD provides the brightest, shiniest, and most metallic "pop".  There's gotten to be so many out there, that I could possible (afford) to try them all.  I QD my vehicle almost daily, and cost is not a concern (since some people use other "non-QD" product to do this task also).  Any recommendations would be helpful too.  If you are familiar with any of these ones on the list, please tell me WHY it's your favorite.

Chemical Guys V7 (I've used this...seemed a little "dry")

FK-425 (I have this and use it currently)

Optimum Instant Detailer OID (I have this and use it when drying the vehicle)

Optimum Wax OCW (Never used)

Prima Slick (Never used)

If it makes any difference, as a sealant, I've come to use Optimum OptiSeal or Prima HydroSeal.  I'm not interested in a "coating" product since I don't mind the application process...so durability isn't priority.  These two products have produced the best results so far.  So I'm looking for a daily topper to provide maximum appearance and slickness.

Please advise!

IME, FK425 is the "<span style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">brightest, shiniest" from your list.

That's why I've continued to use FK425...I haven't found something better yet.  With so many new products, I just assume something out there might be worth trying.  I love the Prima products, so I was hoping someone out there has used Prima Slick and would have an opinion on it.

Besides the FK425, "Finish Kare fans" oughta try the FK146, which I sometimes prefer though I'm a little hard-pressed to explain why.

But...."daily topper"?!?  Daily?!?  You nutty Autopian you....

I tried the FK146, and liked it when the car was a little more than dusty or needed a little more that a daily, maintenance shine.  For my daily OCD process, the 146 was a little dry compared to 425 (in my opinion).  I do have some and use it occasionally, but certain conditions must apply for it to be my choice.

Lol...pretty much daily.  I seem to always find a reason why it needs done.  When I come walking into the garage, I can just hear my vehicle say, "Oh no, not this nut-job again...stop rubbing me!"

My method is completely different from yours.

I don't really QD. But, I do alot of Rinse less washes.

For my premium shine, I dry most of the car, then

I go use the optimum ID-GE as a dyring aid.

Next step is Optimum car wax.

Last is Opti Seal.

Someone on another forum was talking about how

they used Ocw as a clay lube with superior results.

This means that it "Could" have many of the properties

that you want from a QD.

My QD of choice is ONRww.

If cost was not a problem, I would mix up ONRww at

QD concentration, then super charge it with more wax.

I am currently experimenting on different QD solutions.

This thread really makes me wonder what car you have.

She must be a beauty.... daily!

Haha...nope...it's a 2013 Ford F-150 Platinum.  I just have serious "issues".

My dad has a Porsche, so that must be where I get it from.  However, I can claim to have the nicest looking vehicle under $60k in town...that's got to be worth something.

I use ONR all the time, but I haven't tried the ONRWW since I still have some regular left.  I look forward to trying it though.

I've always questioned the OCW, and I've never tried it.  A while back, I finally moved over to sealant products for metallic vehicles...it just has more "pop" than nuba.  Some people don't like that shine and pop, but I do; so when I see Optimum call in a "wax", I've just not pulled the trigger on any.  BUT so many people use it with Opti-Seal, I know the term "wax" probably isn't relevant here.

I just get into having too many products that I can't just continue to always buy something else.  That's why I was hoping some people here could advise.

I'll defiantly get the ONRWW here shortly when I'm about out of ONR.

cobraar97- OK, glad you've tried the FK146.

Another product to conside, since you mentioned ONRWW, is Garry Dean's Infinite Use Detail Juice.  Now I'm generally not a big fan of rinseless washes, but this stuff is very, very nice.  Leaves things *almost* like a FK QD (slick, etc.) too.  And his Beyond Infinity Sealant is kinda surprising me...I like it more than I'd expected to.  Not trying to find new ways to spend your $, but I do think both products are well worth looking into.

This thread intrigues me, because I am an

Experimenter by nature, so I test lots of things.

To me, many products can be combined,

if done logically. You don't want things to

interact and conflict with each other.

Here is my concoction :

I first started with GPS and thinned it out,

with Opti Seal. I thought this was already in

GPS, so I could add more for a better seal.

It worked okay, not optimal.

I like this product because it acts as Glaze and seal

when applied by hand. I want to take advantage of this.

I already had some ONRww and IDGE mixed as a gloss spray. I found this extends the IDGE with similar results. I then added this mixture with the gps/os combo.

I love the results.

I like ONR in this for its encapsulation properties.

This mixture left a shiny and slick surface.

I did need to spray it on, wipe it off and then

a light buff for finish.

Excellent results.

I just don't know if you want to make your

own concoction, or just stick with a product.

That Optimum car wax is an actual caranuba.

The bottle says lasts up to 5 months.

I always keep regular ONR around to use before

polishing, so I don't add wax to the surface.

I'll have to give some of those a shot...it doesn't take much convincing for me to try some new stuff.  But that's the problem :-P

The OCW *is* nice stuff, but it's sure not lasting 5 months on the front bumper cover of Accumulatorette's A8.  You know, " ..*up to* five months".

A F-150 Platinum...NICE!  My wife has seen on and told me about it.  Then, a few days later, we saw one on the road.  She commented what a great looking truck it is and I should get one.  Then I told her the price...case closed.

I've been using the ORWG as a spray detailer but like Willy I've been doing more rinseless washes.  Once you have it down pat it really isn't that much more time to do.  The big benefit comes down to when is it safe to qd vs. the rinseless wash.  It seems that the rinseless wash would be better suited for not introducing swirls and such.

I use to use q.d.'s prior.  It was reading a post by ScottyWax and all made sense.

fdresq4 - I love my Platinum.  And now is the time to buy...the rebates are incredible.  And if you get a good deal from a dealer, you can save serious $$$ off the MSRP.  Mine is a 2013 and I bought it back in February (the truck was actually built in Feb too).  It stickered for $54,xxx and I paid $45,xxx.  $9,000 off MSRP.  I see that Ford now has $8250 in rebates, and with a dealer that'll get their price down too, you can easily clear $9k off MSRP and probably $10k off.  Maybe that would change you wife's mind.  Have her test drive one, she'll love it.

Back to the subject...yes, I do ONR often also if there's any level of debris.  I'll be doing it more here in the early spring with pollen and such.

Indeed. I really haven't used a q.d. in awhile since I've learned about rinseless washes. Come to think of it I don't conventional wash much anymore...LOL

Oh boy. We should have our house paid off in a year and a half. That is when I will start looking and who knows, maybe the Bronco will be back!

My 2 favs right now:

Meguiars Waterless Wash and Wax Anywhere

Duragloss Rinsless Wash with Aquawax

Love them both. Clean very well, smell great, leave great shine and slickenss.
