Photobucket Just Broke Billions of Photos Across the Web

So how does this affect me if I`m currently a premium member? I have almost 10,000 pics loaded to photobucket and it what I`ve always used.

Same w me. From what I can glean from Merlin`s post, we`re good till December 2018. (I hope)

What users are affected by the changes to our 3rd Party Hosting policies?

Moving forward, new and legacy free account users will NOT have third party hosting available.

If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017, you will continue
to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd Party Hosting until December 31, 2018
as long as you maintain your subscription.

I wonder if Photobucket could have saved themselves this headache by simply adding a small "image hosted by Photobucket" watermark on images from free accounts appearing on 3rd party sites? I certainly wouldn`t mind such an idea appearing on my review images here on ACC and AG vs all of my pre 2016 product reviews getting trashed. For those people selling stuff at least it would give them the option to pay for their accounts inorder to remove the watermark.

Well that sucks! It`s not like we can go back and edit all the threads we`ve created in the past, even if I could I wouldn`t want to. I`m definitely not paying the new amount they want.

Yeah, Photobucket sucks.

I believe you can host from OneDrive, Amazon Prime and from Imgur. I experimenting with all.

OneDrive is kind of a hassle. I guess I`ll have to get used to it:

**** Photobucket.

Photobucket turned to trash years ago. They have so many ads on their website it`s practically unuseable.

This. I abandoned PB years ago and moved to Smugmug. Even though I have to pay a bit (think it`s like $50/year or something.....pretty reasonable), I`ve been very pleased with site

That is really bad and Photobucket is basically using blackmail for people to get their photos back on the web. What needs to happen is simple every forum and web site that was affected by photobuckets totally bush league move is to ban all photos linked to photobucket in the future. Even of the user pays he will not be able to post photos on the forum or web site making the service useless. Hit where they hurt right in the bottom line.

Just got to thinking about this last night....how many thousands of great mechanical/tech help threads that have been created over the years on various forums are completely boned now

Yes, a lot of knowledge now hidden without some workarounds.

Youtube videos have been great too. I needed them when replacing the window track in my Dakota door and fixing a mower carburetor (saved a lot of time). Sometimes when you take things apart things fall out unexpectedly and do not know where they go.

I had to add my two cents, here.

My Photobucket Plus 50 account was due to expire on July 11th. I received an email two days prior to this, to inform me that they were unable to process my subscription renewal, which was true, as my credit card was expired, and I needed to update the details on their web site.

OH MY GOD. What followed is a litany of frustration and incompetence on the part of Photobucket. I went to their website, and there is no place to update my credit card details.

I contact Photobucket. They get back to me, and tell me to "cancel my recurring payments", and then renew recurring payments. Okay, sure. Except there is no place on the web site to do so! So, I let them know this.

They take their sweet time getting back to me, and now, my account has been downgraded to a "Free" account. I note that my pictures now take up only 4.3 GB on their web site, whereas before, it was over 7GB, so I am assuming that the quality has now been compromised.

As well, because I didn`t renew (or actually, was UNABLE) to renew my account, I lose third party hosting (they were allowing all Plus accounts to retain third party hosting until the end of 2018, if the account was active prior to June 1st, 2017, and renewed).

SO FRUSTRATING.

Photobucket can kiss my ass. Their support has been nothing short of abysmal.

Thanks for listening. Rant over.

This makes the usual "link missing" entries in the forums pretty insignificant

In the past few weeks I`ve gone to looking at some different stuff on google, recently checking for different ideas about sealing one of my bbq smokers.
Typed in a good search.
Results showed what looked like a good idea in the preview
Summary sounded like something I`d be looking for
Clicked the link
BOOM - Photobucket 3rd party warning

I`d say of the first 10 different forum links I looked at, 6 were photo-broken

Lots of tribal knowledge down the drains, no-one is going to go back and fix any of those links, even if photobucket changed their policy, lots of us have removed all the images and closed the accts.
