Permagard

Never heard of the stuff but it does worry me when they say "no need to polish ever again" and "its as permanent as the paint on your car". Of course, this does not mean it is a bad product but with that kind of marketing I am unlikely to test it.

Have just had a discussion with the guys at Permagard. The initial application costs approx. £150 and it then has to be re done every 12 months at a cost of approx. £75

Doesn't sound like a scam for a coat of wax.

" Every painted surface of your car is treated and protected permanently with our exclusive reactive plastic film, whether it be those surfaces that you see and notice every day, or those that maybe you don't pay so much attention to such as the engine bay, door and boot interiors, surrounds, sills and so on.

Permagard's reactive plastic polymer technology is trusted to protect some of the world's most expensive painted surfaces and gel coats, subjected to the harshest of environments. You will find permagard on everything from ocean-going super-yachts, private and commercial jets, and all kinds of cars everywhere."

Interesting.

So by the 2nd year this has cost £225, sounds very expensive to me. You could have a very good collection of cleaning products for that kind of money. A bottle of Autoglym SRP and EGP could last quite a few years and would cost under £25

Well a well respected auto shop in my town has become the distributor for this and had some of the treated cars there at the Autosalon show setup night last night and a former Car Toys employee who is working there that knows me well gave me some brochures on it.

To be honest it looks like an exact replica of Toughseal (step 1 toughseal has impressed me so far) A PTFE teflon base that you put a base underneath.

The gang at Emtech do a few prep steps and then apply it by machine and it will fill in the marks like glare pro polish is supposed to do (still don't have it yet)

However it's definately not a replacement for polishing as I would rather piss off the marks and then seal the paint than just hide them with a 12 month sealant

He also claimed that if any marks were put onto the coatingt, that it would not touch the paint and be easily refilled.

I'll get the PD pack they stock and give it a whirl but I'm not expecting much as it's still just a polymer coating

If you want to put on something try a sealant which is really hard for example Eagle Wax or Crystal Guard (MOHS 6), or the Gtechniq C1 sealant (MOHS 7).

I bit the bullet and bought the PD 5000 pre delivery treatment and 1 litre shampoo

Total cost was $115 but after testing it last night on plastics, urethane, glass and paint, it definately performs great

Even by hand it gives a shine another level above 106FF.

This is not the permanent one but a 12 month sealant which also has some non abrasive cleaner in it so it will work on faded plastic side mirror backings and trim pieces

I applied fireglaze plus (which is runnier than the double strength bottle and polishes better) to the top part of my double decker spoiler (fibreglass) to see if I could lift it higher

Previously it had no reflection at all and was flat brown. With my trim dream and double strength, I got it light black and some reflections

After FG plus with LC 4 inch white pad I noticed clearer reflections and I followed with two applications of Permagard with LC 4 inch black and the results are brilliant

It now is black and has life like reflections and looks like someone painted and cleared it

Sealed it up with permagard and it's slicker than cooking oil

I'm still going to get G Techniq P1 and C1 though
