Perforated leather and the stuff stuck in them

I did a quick search and didn't come up with much useful info. Anyway, here is my question. Just about every time I encounter a vehicle with perforated leather, there is various crap (random dirt, mud, food, etc.) stuck in the perforations. Does anybody have any good techniques to get this stuff out? I've tried woolite with a soft bristle brush in combination with the brush attachment on my vacuum to work the stuff loose and suck it out with little success. I'm thinking about using a toothpick or something similar but don't want to just force the grime through the holes. I also don't want to get too aggressive and run the risk of marring the leather. Thoughts?

I do a lot of re-dyeing and often need to poke through the holes once its done. I wouldn't be afraid of a toothpick or needle used carefully. If you had to do every hole of course that would be too time consuming and doing that many more of a chance of goofing one up.

It isn't that I am worried about goofing up or time (to a reasonable degree). I would prefer to not push debris down through/underneath the leather. This would just hide the problem and not actually clean it up. Moreover, if it is food or something that can decay it could get pretty funky with time.

I might saturate with a mild leather cleaner, allow to dwell, use a semi stiff brush on the areas, resaturate, and extract with crescent tip on the shop vac. I would then again reapply light cleaner and rewipe. Not the most fun of jobs in detailing.

compressed air, if you have acess would probably be the easiest...just a thought

I use this method too. I tried Woolite, toothpick, stiff brush and toothbrush and only found compress air to get stuff out of the hole.
