Perfecting Black....

DSVWGLI- VERY interesting that even the 1Z MP micromarred for you..thanks for the response.

I don't want anybody to get *me* wrong either; I'm not :argue about this stuff, it's just something that I haven't experienced so it leaves me scratching my head  and it makes me wonder about all the people who detail without a rotary.

Heh heh, glad I reached for the Cyclo instead of the PC when I was struggling with the Volvo.

Accumulator - I don't think it's a case where 1Z MP marred for me, but more the action of the PC. With the rotary I never get those tiny hook marks (micromarring) with any polish. What I do get if I don't break the polish down enough is swirl marks from the abrasives in the polish. And as far as the micromarring I got from the PC on some not all the cars I detail, was only really noticeable to me. I never had any customer ever say or notice the marring. For me the PC was just not good enough because it will not correct all types of paint perfectly, at least not to my standards. And hey none of this is arguing, were just a bunch of anal, polish happy people discussing what we love.

I'd like somebody to try 1z Pro MP on one of the *super soft* blacks some time, by Cyclo (and/or PC but I'd expect the Cyclo to do better).

Accumulator, there is a black MR2 Spyder that I will be detailing in next month or two. I have't detailed it before so I don't know is it really soft or not but everything indicates it is. If you have some 1z Pro MP to spare I would be happy to give it a try.

I just did a black GM car that marred easily. I tested and tried different things on it and the best ones I used so far are.

Presta swirl remover

Zaino zpc

take a look these before and after....sorry my camera sucks....look at the last pic of zpc before z5

I tried ZPC on a scuff on the running board and couldn't get it come out with out slight haze then hit it with POR85RD and came out perfect. I contact Sal and shortly after I contacted him he posted this on the website.

"I used Z-PC and now the paint looks hazy. Is this normal?

Dark color surfaces, especially black, will sometimes leave you with a slightly hazy or milky surface after using Z-PC. Z-PC Fusion does not have any fillers or oils. To make the surface crystal clear, apply your ZFX enabled Z2 or Z5 to make this milky look go away, leaving a perfect, crisp, clear, BLACK and scratch free finish."

Posted here ---> Z-PC Fusion Dual Action Paint Cleaner Swirl Remover: Zaino Store

The hazy or milky is what I was seeing and couldn't get rid with PC or Cyclo with any pad combo. Maybe just on softer paints since he is trying to do one step, have not tried the Zaio so can't comment there.

OK, since the Pro MP hasn't been discontinued after all (they had threatened to do that once) I can spare a little. PM me when you're definite about that MR2. Heh heh, if I start looking for little bottles now maybe I'll be ready when you are!

Hey Dennis...I must have to tell you that you have the nicest and cleanest looking hot rods that I have ever seen. What type of paint are on those?

Wierd, I have seen that on the site too, but I have never had a problem with zpc. Maybe they changed the formula lately or something. I have used it on about 10 cars now with no problems at all. Yesterday I used it on a black car via pc white lc pad after I used a rotory and it removed all the trail marks and left a hard clear gloss. The paint was a pain to deal with also, but it did an excellent job. I use zpc or 106ff to finish my jobs always. When did you try it?

ZPC is my go-to finishing polish on dark cars, and I also like FPII. I'm not sure why you got hazing, I know I never have. Could have been a lot of things, pads, something wrong with paint, bad formula, etc. I'd find out the source for sure though.

MR2 is definite, only question is of schedule. I'll let you know once I get a better idea. Good news is painted surface on them is very small not much will be needed. Can you mail just few drops, please? :chuckle:

The black car is Base Coat / Clear Coat and the red Hot rod is a Single Stage. Thanks for the nice comments.

The problem with ZPC could be soft paint but I really tried to work it even letting up on the pressure to the point of just using the weight of the PC. I think another problem was that I had almost perfect paint around the spot I was trying to buff out and made the hazy more apparent. After trying the Sonus, SSR, Meguiars then I tried Menzerna FP and IP and couldn’t believe how well IP finished down for me. I heard all the hype about POR85RD and could not believe anything could outperform IP as a finishing polish but POR85RD really does bring it to another level. What I tried to say is have you compared side by side ZPC and Menzerna as a finial polish. My belief is that ZPC was made to do a wide range of defects where POR85RD was made more for jewelling the finish and not so much as a polish to remove paint defects just brings it to a higher level. These are just my opinions – heck I still prefer PS, TS, VW, 50/50, PS21, Natty Blue, Pink Wax PS Spray and even #16 Nor do I like light beer:laugh: !

PS I’m also working with OP, Poli-Seal and XMT line but the jury still out on them. I have only used them a couple of times.

I have a three year old black Suburban with NO micromarring or swirls. I use high quality MF towells and use Klasse and Souveran/Nattys Blue. You could be getting this during your wash! I use a high quality sheep mitt and a high quality wash ( Griots, Perls). I think your problem probably is the process and not the product however!

I recently did the hood of my NBM TA with ZPC by rotary with ZPC and a LC whitepad. I have some very minor hollogramming. I do believe that an extremely soft pad finishes slightly better.

Sounds like me...I gotta try everything. I would stick with your po85rd and you won't find anything finer than that, especially on those custom cars you have. Menzerna makes some of the finest polishes bar none. When dealing with custom paint it can be very difficult in finding what works best. I know I use to paint and I have dealt with a lot of cars with custom paint. Another swirl remover I like that is very forgiving is Presta Swirl Remover. It finishes down very fine and creates an incredible gloss that does not wash away neither. Works perfect for custom paint!
