Pentax K100D DSLR

I have just made the step up to DSLR by purchasing the K100D. I have owned a few point and shoot cameras and always wanted more but could never justify the cost, but with DSLR's becoming more and more affordable I finally decided to pull the trigger. I'm getting the camera with the standard kit lens for $438 shipped. I already have rechargeable AA batteries so now I just need to get a case and an SD card and i'm good to go. I wish I could remember where I got my SD card from for my phone cause it only costed me $9 and it's 1gig.........I'll probably get a 2gig card for my camera. Any suggestions on a decent case that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Congrats on the new DSLR. I made the SLR jump too earlier this year, purchasing the Canon XTi and a couple lenses.



For a nice, but not too expensive case, look at LowePro. I have the Rezo 170 ($50 IIRC at B&H Photo), which is an all-weather case, which I liked in the event I am caught in bad weather with my gear. The case isn't too large to carry all day on vacation or while out and about. l have it loaded with my camera body with the kit lense attached, plus a 70-300 zoom and a 50mm prime lense, plus most of the accessories I need (storage cards, chargers, manuals, etc). The size of your bag will depend mostly on what you plan on carrying with you, i.e. extra lenses, flash, ....



Here is the one I bought, but you might have a look at other LowePro models, as they have plenty to fit whatever size you think you need.

Nice upgrade. Is that the one with image stabilization built in?



As for a bag it all matters on personal preference. Shoulder bags are usually more convenient. Book bags are cool but a little extreme, especially if your just starting out with limited equipment.



This bag is nice and relatively cheap. Don't mind the Canon logo I guess you can put a patch over it.

Yeah man, i'm all kinds of anxious to get my grubby little hands on my new toy. I'm gonna be a picture taking fool pretty soon:2thumbs:



That is a pretty nice bag there, I got to looking around and I think I have found one that fits my needs. This photography stuff is a hobby I don't see myself getting caught up in, it's too expensive for me, so it's highly unlikely that I'll be buying any other glass. I'll just have the camera, memory card, extra batteries and the charger, maybe a lens cleaning kit. I'd love to get some glass but man, $200-$800 for a lens???!!! Insane!

Canon GB2400 Gadget Bag

Yep, it's got the shake reduction, which I've noticed alot when I try to take pics with limited lighting with my current rig, a Canon PowerShot A510. I can't wait to take my first pic where the background is blurry but the subject is perfectly in focus, I love those kind of pictures.



That too is a nice bag, but the Canon logo would irk me since my camera is a Pentax. I know, i'm just weird like that:nixweiss



Anyone have any experience with the bag I posted and have some good reasons why I should avoid it like the plague?

That bag is probably fine for your needs now. You might even be able to get it locally which is better so that you avoid shipping fees and so that you can see it for yourself.



As for pictures with the subject in focus and background out of focus thats more knowing how to use the camera's settings. To achieve nice "bokeh" you need to open your lens up, larger f stop, to get that look as well position your subject and background correctly.

Here are a couple examples with my lens wide open @ f/4...

Really? I'll check them out. I remembered last night that I got my mini sd card for my phone from meritline.com
