which LC pads, colors, sizes, amt of pads etc.

which products/compounds, polished etc.

anything else i should get while im looking into these things?

im asking for it for my b-day and so as long as its not an outrageous price....like over 350 bucks or something i think itll be ok

Do you have a set budget?

LOL, like *that's* ever stopped us before! :D

If I were just starting out, I'd get:

A PC or a Flex (Flex preferred, but you'd have to get bigger pads than those suggested below)

3 4.5" black LC foam pads

3 4.5" Orange LC foam pads

3 4.5" white LC foam pads

1 qt. Meguiars M105

1 qt. Meguaiars M205

1 pt. Menzerna Final Polish II

1 pt. Menzerna PO85RD

Then a variety of glazes and LSP's. You can't ever have too many of those. :)

Superbee pretty much nailed it.

Ive never used 4" pads before but im doing just fine with 5.25" and 5.5" pads.

Either way I think youll be fine.

I agree with the pads too.

Orange, White, and Black will give you a good spread.

I would up the amount of the white to like 5 pads though. I love white pads. I rarely ever need to go to orange. Black is good but more than likely your only going to use it once during a polish which is for the final polish. For example, on some cars you may use white with m105, and than step down to white with m205, and finally if the m205 didnt finish out good enough, black pad and finishing polish.

It will be good to have a set of orange pads though, just incase.

yep, DO NOT GET 6.5" pads for the PC!!!

get some uber pads in the 5.5" from detailersdomain.com

or get some exceldetail pads in 5.5

I use both and love them both! Exceldetail ones are a little more thick if you like that aspect. I think that orange, green, blue black pads are necessary

and use only speed 6 on the PC, anything else is a waste of time!

oh yeah, and get some 105 and 205 - both work VERY WELL via PC, as that is my go to combo on all my details whether its a two step or a 3-4 step! 105 just removes defects with ease!:bigups

I just ordered my "kit" wich includes:

PC

2-LC white pads(5.5" and 4" )

2-LC Grey pads(5.5" and 4")

2-LC orange pads(5.5" and 4")

1-3.5" backing plate

2- 4" red pads

XMT#1 ultra fine swirl remover

XMT#3 intermediate swirl remover

XMT carnauba glaze

pad conditioner

I purchased all that for a little over 300 dollars wich i think is pretty good for a starter kit,i went with the XMT products cause they were a little cheaper than Meguiars, but i know later on i'll be able to get a different brand if i don't like the XMT, but for now i think i should be alright with that??

So did you get 2 each of 5.5 and 4? or one 5.5 and one 4?

Why did you go 4" with a red pad?

i got 2 5.5" and 2 4"

the reason for the red pad was because they had a two 4" white and two 4" red pad combo in one kit,and i was originally trying to get just 2 4inch white pads but for some reason it wasn't allowing me to add it to my shopping cart(maybe they were out of stok or something) so i just went with the package that had 2 4" white pads and it also comes with red ones so why not? i'll just get some more later on obviously, but for now that should do since i'm on a tight budget and pretty much was waiting for my tax return to be able to purchase this stuff

gaaaaaah damn!!!! i just placed that big order and completely forgot about that coupon code!! i can't believe how dumb i was,i don't think my order has been processed yet so i'm gonna give emailing them about it a try see if they can help me out. Thanks for the reminder Xyxyll!!!!

so is M105 and M205 like...better than any menzerna or pinnacle or any other products combo? Im looking for a good all around product for old paint, new paint etc etc

Hmmm. I hate to be the one that says this, but...

The introduction of M105 and M205 is what has made many pros turn their rotaries in for PC's and/or Flexs. Those two polishes enable the PC to do stuff it's never been able to do before. Unfortunately, they are necessary in order to really get stuff done with the PC. Now before I get a whole bunch of "I've been using a PC and getting stuff done for a long time before M105/M205" replies, yes, I'm very aware of what can and can't be done with a PC. It's just that the Meguiars products take the DA polisher to an entirely new level of what can be done, and how fast it can be done.

Still kinda new to forum but I had to ask...

I have a PC with 4" & 5.5" Uber Pads and was thinking of switching and trying some 6" pads w/ counterweight on my PC...is using a 6.5" as bad if not worse than a 6"??

Thanks and sorry for thread jacking....:chuckle:

Stick with your 4" and 5.5" pads. PC cannot handle the larger 6-6.5" pads. Forget about the counterweight, it won't make a difference what weight you use. Larger pads on rotary will make a lot of difference. Larger pads on a rotary will generate more heat.

I have 2 5.5" orange LC pads, 3 6.5" white LC pads, about 4 6.5" black LC pads, and 1 blue 6.5" pad.

Excel detail has some good deals on 4" pads, which i took advantage of. really does help to have the 4" pads.

From what I have learned, you can never have too many pads. Dont have to have 20 of each but 3 of each for each detail ( i think) is good to have if you get crap on one or contaminate one, you have back ups.

PC

5.5 inch pads with backing plate (2 orange, 2 white, 2 finishing)

Megs Ultimate compound

A good finishing polish (Megs 205, Ultrafina, Menzerna Final Polish 2)
