PC7424 counterweights

I know this has been discussed in the past, but I have discovered some new information.



I took a look at my PC this weekend to check out the counterweight closely and it said "for 6" pad only"!! I thought the 7424 came with the 5" counterweight. I just ordered a 6" counterweight in the Canadian group buy for Meguiar's pads, so I'll see if there is any difference.



For those of you with 7424's, what did the counterweight that came with the tool say on it. Mine was stamped right on the weight itself.

I have the 6" CW for the group buy... I will try then both out and see if it does run smoother with the 6".

That's weird. I thought mine had lots of vibration, and was hoping that the 6" counterweight would reduce it, but by the looks of things, I doubt it now. After an hour with the PC, my fingers are almost all numb! :eek:
 
My 7424 came with the 5" installed, but I have the 6" from coastal tool. Going to get the torx screw today, #15 was it?



Most of the heavy vibration seems to be coming from the side handle...

Hmm....has anyone tried adding additional foam padding on the side handle?

That might be a worthwhile try. Although you don't want to make it such that you're not getting a very good grip. You don't want that thing flying loose on speed 6. :scared



Mine came with the 5 and 6 inch counterweight from coastal, and i put the 6 right on for use with 6 inch pads...
 
If we really want to be women about it (I apologize for the sexist remark to any females on this board), then we can get some nice work gloves. This might absorb some vibration while increasing grip. I might give it a try.
 
The problem I have is not in the palms, it's my fingers gripping the handles. Most gloves have heavier padding in the palms, so that's not going to help, I don't think.



The big problem is that I have a bit of arthritis in my hands and my fingers ache very badly after using the PC for extended periods.

I just purchased my 7424 just a few weeks ago from Canadian Tire.



I remember reading one of the threads here that the 7424 takes a torx #15, WRONG! :down



I fortunately tested both the torx #15 and #20 and the #20 fits properly, good thing I checked. I am not saying that all 7424’s come with the torx #20 screw but mine sure did. :nixweiss
 
For what it's worth, Harley D sells a pair of summer leather gloves that are very well padded on the palms & first joints of the fingers... On a warm day or when I'm working hard, the leather allows me to maintain control with less pressure. Only run at speed 6 a very short time anyway.
 
I can't comment on which torx wrench size but don't try to Mickey Mouse this by using an Allen wrench, it won't work and you'll be launching that weight in short order.



I purchased my 7424 from Coastal Tool and it came with both five and six inch backing plates. The five inch weight was installed but it was no where near tight - wonder why PC would ship like that?



I think any padded glove offered by the manufacturer of a US or Brit twin ("FOOD FIGHT!") would go a long way towards cutting down on vibration. Grasping the right angle grip lightly to just guide the PC will help - a "death grip" will surely kill your hand in short order.



I have an unused six inch PC, hook & loop backing plate with appropriate weight for anyone needing one - I think $12 + shipping is about right. PM me if interested, please.
 
Any vibration is amplified because the handle has no weight and it's further away.



I tried removing my handle because there was too much vibration at the highest setting. I preferred gripping onto the front anyways. However with the handle removed the black shroud makes too much noise. So I put two bolts in where the handle goes, one on the left and one on the right, and now it's just right.

I could probably take this off your hands....can you find out how much shipping would be to Canada?
 
unless you kick it up on the dial to 6. Even then, if avoid holding the handled and hold the rounded top part it isn't too bad.



I actually found I didn't like buffing at speed 6 as I found it broke down the abrasive's too quickly and I ended up using more product. I prefer starting out a 4 for 30sec and then using it a 5 - 5.5 for the entire time. Starting out lower than 4 seemed useless.

My PC came with the 5" weight installed. I find that I get much more vibration unless the pad is centered exactly on the backing plate. Also my 6" weight did not seem to fit as well as the 5" one.
 
wow. i stopped eating a week ago to save for a PC. so, this is interesting to me before i buy. i haven't seen this mentioned before.



i thought that a 7336 came with 5" plate and CB and the 7424 was with 6" plate and CB. coastal tools sells it with both as a marketing edge, a good one in my opinion.



i have been looking for used ones. which combination is preferred by you? you could have, what, 4 combinations? 5" or 6" plate with 5 oz or 6 oz CB.
 
After using the PC for a weekend, I got used to using the machine on speed 6. Now everything below that is a breeze. I was working AIO in on 3 or 4 and I felt no fatigue from it. Sorry to those with any joint problems. Go get some gloves if you need them!
