PC with DACP and Megs Maroon Pad.

I have a question that could be very basic for most people.



I hv just bought a rotary and want to remove some light swirls on red 2-pack paint, without resorting to compounds.



My plan is:

Step 1:Rotary + Megs Maroon cutting pad + Megs DACP.

Step 2:Rotary + Megs Yellow Polishing pad + Megs DACP

Step 3:Rotary + Megs Finishing Pad + Megs Swirl Free Polish



Alternative:

Instead of using a Rotary above, can a I use my PC instead for all 3 steps?



The above products are all I have at the moment.

Using the above stuff, are there any other methods that can produce decent results?

Many enthusiatsts tell me that DA and random orbital machines are the same.

But I think there is a difference. I could be wrong.



I am comparing the PC with other small polishers such as Bosch, and Black + Decker that's primarly used by many to apply and buff off products.
 
I'm not sure why, if you just bought a rotary, you now don't want to use it. If you only have "light swirls", you certainly don't want to use that maroon cutting pad. If they are more than "light", you can use that maroon pad on the PC if you have hard paint (let me qualify that; I have used it on hard paint with the PC without a problem...I'm presuming that with all the cautions about using that pad on the PC that you could cause significant marring on soft paint...but then on soft paint you probably wouldn't use a cutting pad anyway). How much polishing experience do you have?
 
FWIW, Meg's doesn't recommend the cutting pad on the pc because you *may* get hazing in the paint that the PC won't remove
 
Certain paints have a reputation as being very hard, such as Audis and Corvettes (and IME most GM). Hondas are known to be soft, and so on.

This is a very sore point for me. I’m totally a/r about consistent terminology and this is a case of “common usage� without regard to any formal, technical definition.



The vast majority of machines referred to as “orbital� and “Dual Action� all use the same type of motion. Each has a plate that is mounted to non-driven, freely spinning shaft that is mounted eccentrically on a driven shaft. In the case of the PC, Porter-Cable calls it “orbital� while Meguiar’s calls the exact same machine “Dual Action.�



It has become common for some to refer to the cheap, slow, low-powered machines as “orbital� and the higher quality, higher speed, more powerful machines as “Dual Action.�



The reality is that the machines all share the same basic type of motion but they have vastly differing effectiveness when used in the real world.



Most of the polishers sold to “enthusiasts� through common sales channels (mass market car parts stores, hardware stores, home centers, departments stores, etc...) are junk, useless for doing paint restoration and barely adequate for “spreading stuff around.�

I am using BASF's Glasurit paint, which is considered soft....with very slight swirls that's visible only under direct sunlight and very strong indoor lighting.

If I have the following products, what shd I do?



1. Megs Diamond Cut No 85

2. Megs DACP

3. Megs Swirl Free

4. Megs Maroon, Yellow and Tan pads.



I've tried DACP + Yellow pad at Speed 2 (PC) but to no avail. Did not dare to try higher speed. Any recommendations?
