PC with 4 inch pads or buy Rotary

I'm sorry to bug you guys again with this but I still can't make a decision. As I've expressed before I've really never been blown away with the PC results with my 6.5 inch pads. Some people here have recommended swithing to 4 inch pads while others have suggested just going straight to a rotary. Can you guys help me make a decision? FYI my cars are a Black Porsche 997, Red Frontier Truck and a Black MB GL450.

Thanks

I'm still in the market for a rotary, but using 4" pads on the PC has taken away a lot of the urgency behind that purchase. It's such a small investment that I'd recommend the backing plate & pads even if you decide later to buy a rotary. FYI - I originally went with 4" pads for work around contours and in tight areas, which made the power boost seem like even more of a bonus.

My advice: do both but get the 4" pads for the PC first. You'll use 'em with the rotary anyhow, so the only additional expense is the small PC backing plate.

Yeah, 4" pads are a must-have item, as Accumulator says. You probably won't ever do a car without using the 4" pads *somewhere* on it. They will save you alot of time over having to hand-do small areas.

I think for average, decent cars a PC with 4 inch pads are sufficient. A rotary with wool pads will have more cutting power for those really bad situations.

What he said.

If you are even thinking about getting a rotary....just do it. Buy the 4" pads and use on the pc while you practice with the rotary. The Makita can be found for well under $200 delivered.

I have 4" and the 5.5" low profile LC pads, both gave my PC a big increase in correction ability. I haven't tried the 5.5" CCS pads but the low profile ones really work.

In my opinion, make the switch, and NEVER look back. The rotary and PC skills I think are very much the same on horizontal and flat panels. The vertical panels are much more difficult. I have only use 4" pads with the pc, and it was on audi paint, I then used 4" pads via rotary, no-go.

I just recently got a 6.5 inch set of pads to go full rotary and found that it is WAY easier to use the larger pads, and they correct on the frozen diamonds hard audi paint much much much better (notice I didn't say faster, as it does correct faster, but more like 1 full breakdown application vs 7 full breakdown applications with the PC and 4" pads)

my .02 cents
