PC versus Rotary

thanks for the replies guys, i actually practiced a little on my car but i couldnt get the swirls out even though i was shining like crazy afterwards. i did burn the paint on the washer nozzles but i can go to the dealer and get another set for like $20.but it svcared me a little afterwards. my car is black onyx and you know what that means. im need to find a good detailer in the city to do the initial work until i get good enough to do it myself. arethere any classes that i can take?

Seeing as how you're in NYC I wouldn't be surprised if there's someplace you can get some training. I'd just look online or in the good ol' yellow pages.

The washer nozzle thing is a good lesson- there are times when you either have to tape off vulnerable things or remove them before doing the polishing. Seems there's *always* some spot I don't want to hit with the pad and I'm not gonna take any chances, especially since some things are only original once ;)

And the news that you didn't get all the marring out tells me that you're erring on the side of caution :xyxthumbs

i had the setting on 1000 rpm but i had one of those wool pads on it that come with the machine, so i believe the pad was mostly the culprit

I've been pondering one of the dual-mode polishers being discussed

here ; however , I'm having trouble following the thread here concerning them.

The BO6040 is made by Makita , the Bosch model # is 1250DEVS....for clarification ,

which one is being referred to here.

By the way, as of this posting , the Festool Rotex 150 is on clearance at EVERY

site I've checked (manufacturer's mandate , I guess) for $350.

The Makita and Bosch can be had alternately from $230-260.

The Bosch gets excellent reviews among woodworkers in regards to power ,

comfort , reliability, etc.....but I haven't been able to find much in the

way of detailing reviews.

Holler at me if you can provide any more user's info....it'd be much appreciated.
