PC Stopped Working!

I've got a 7424 which I've had for about 18 months. The last time I used it was about a month ago when I gave it a pretty good workout (IP and FPII) and it was working fine. I went to use it tonight and nothing! It seems dead as a door nail. Of course its no longer under warranty.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any ideas what the problem is? At about $125 for a new one I don't want to spend a lot of money repairing it, but I don't want to throw it away over a $2 part either . . .

Thanks

I've heard the cords go bad (I guess the connection inside the machine). Porter Cable has repair centers that you can take/send it to to be fixed. If it is just the cord, maybe yourself or an appliance repair place can do it.

The two most obvious problems would be a bad cord or worn brushes. I trust you tried it in a different outlet (just to make sure)?

Haven't taken one apart yet so I can't help you out, but it shouldn't be too hard to trace out the cord and to locate the brushes.

Mandatory disclaimer: make sure it is unplugged when you do this ;)

Here is a link to get a parts list that shows where things are located:

It's official! I'm an idiot!

Before I posted I, of course, tried it in all three outlets in the garage . . . nothing. Checked the circuit box just to make sure . . . no breakers tripped.

Had to be the PC, right?

After the responses from you guys I decided I try to take it apart and see if I could find anything. Brought the PC in the house and sat down at my desk. Tried it one more time . . . works perfectly.

Checked the garage one more time. This time I noticed the GFI circuit built into one of the outlets was tripped!

Oh well . . . at least my baby is working again!

Thanks guys

I doesn't help if you step on the cord regularly. Mine pulled loose inside. Pretty easy to fix.

I've had the same problem with the GFI circuits myself. :doh
