I see a lot of mention of putting the PC on speed 5.5....I put mine on the half way area between 5 and 6..and I see no difference in speed....so is there a speed of 5.5....if not why are people saying they polished at 5.5....in fact I tried 2 PC's to see if they have a speed of 5.5...nope..nadda...

Thanks

Al

I think your right. I never noticed it before, but I just went and tried and can't seem to get a difference between 5 and 6.

EDIT: I kinda worded my statement wrong. I ment to say I can only get 5 or 6, nothing in between.

i find that there is a huge difference between speed 5 and 6 you can hear the motor working as hard as it can when its on 6 but on 5 it is quieter...but not quiet

Sneek...

I am talking about putting it between 5 and 6 some call it 5 1/2 speed...there is none on mine..just goes from 5 to 6....

Mine is much the same. The speed increase seems proportional through about speed 4, then it seems like there are detents at 5 and 6, where it just jumps up to that speed when you get the dial there. Nothing in between.

I laugh every time I see some one say that they set the speed at 5.5 since that speed setting does not exist in this universe on a PC.

From 1 to 5 on the speed dial there are 5 clicks between the numbers. For example, go to setting 1 and there are five clicks/positions between setting 1 and setting 2. So you have 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, and 2. It is like this for the setting 1 to 5. Once you hit setting 5 on the dial there are NO clicks between 5 and 6. It's a straight jump to 6 from 5 with nothing in between. There is no 5.5 or 5. anything for that matter. It is like this on all 20 or so PC's I have used.

Yeah, when I first saw a post with 5.5 as the speed I got all pissed cuz I thought mine was broken.:lmfao

i am able to use 5.5 although there is no click/indent between 5 and 6 i just bump it from five and move it enough to wear it holds it and it does...
but then again i think once you put it at 5.5 i think it the speed of 6..but dont quote me on that...anybody email Porter cable about that

You can put the dial between 5 and 6 but there is no setting there. It will run at speed five until you put it all the way into 6. There is no speed difference until then.

I never realized this before... I didn't know that there were clicks in between all of the numbers except for 5-6. Any reasoning behind this that someone knows of? I've been guilty of saying speed 5.5 in the past... thanks for the correction. Learn something new every day.

Think of 6 as overdrive because that is what it is. From 1 to 5 the speed will increase gradually with each click. The jump from 5 to 6 is very large and noticeable.

Ok I'm just typing out of my A**.
I can set the dial between 5 and 6 and get this, even here a difference in sound when adjusted to that setting.

Are you trying to convince everybody that your PC has settings between 5 and 6 just like all the settings between 1 to 5? If you are than I find this amusing because there is no settings between 5 and 6. As I stated earlier I have used about 20 different PC's and none of them, I repeat, none of them have a setting between 5 and 6. Maybe your PC has a birth defect.

Maybe your PC has a birth defect.
Mine also has a birth defect because I just checked it and I have a setting between 5 and 6 also. I dont have 4 or 5 clicks like there is between the other numbers, but there is 1 click between 5 and 6.

Enough said.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. I was making a statement. YOu seem to be trying to convince everyone that I'm wrong because supposedly you've become the guru of PC's
