How do you guys use the 7" pads to polish the little spots like the bumper and between the windows and the roof for example? any techniques? i know i can get the 2.75" plate and the 4" pads but i dont have that at the moment

I just use the edge of the pad or the part that overhangs the backing plate. Watch you don't a) apply too much pressure and/or b) use too much product and get splatter everywhere. The PC is mild enough that I'll try things that would be risky with a rotary.

yea but isnt it true that if the pad isnt flat on the surface i can burn through clearkote/paint, and if thats not true then should i apply the polisth just to the edge of the pad?

When you use the edge like that just do that section after the pad is primed and you just finnished a big section. There should be enough polish on the pad to do a small section.

Yeah, when I'm doing this sort of thing I too do the large areas first and almost always have enough product on the pad to do the tight spots. But yeah, you could massage some product into the outer edge of the pad- enough to do the job, not enough to fly everywhere.

Not *that* big a risk of burning/etc. with the PC, even when using the edge. If you want to be extra careful just use a mild pad, turn down the speed, and don't apply pressure. It's not like you *can't* do damage, but a little common sense and caution will go a long way.

I do the main bulk of the car with the 6 inch pads, and then use 4 inch pads in the smaller areas, front and rear valences, rear hatch, lower doors, areas between the windows, rear spoiler etc.

While I'm a big fan of the 4" pads, sometimes the PC still won't get to a certain area because the head of the machine bumps into something. That's when I use the edge of the pad approach.

I occurs to me that one of the reasons I bought the PC was the Cyclo's inability to get into some areas on my XJS. I use the edge of the PC pad for some of these spots and even with that car's soft lacquer, no problems at all.

But yeah, IMO every PC user oughta have a 4" pad setup.
