I just polished my front fender and door with the 3M Perfect it III MG and it TOTALLY took out all the swirls and minor scratches that 1Z PP and SSR 2.5 couldnt touch.
Now that surprises me. Although the MG and PP are pretty similar, I've found the PP to me more aggressive. Maybe it's just a matter of how they're used and you and I use different techniques with them.
My general multi-step progression:
1Z UP, PI-III RC, 1Z PP, PI-III MG, 1Z (pro) MP, Menzerna FP (occasionally).
Bill - You'll find the PI-III RC a good bit milder than the 1Z PP. By Cyclo there's no need to practice on scrap fenders. Really

As I gradually redo the MPV, I just hit it with the Cyclo/PI-III RC for the first pass(es).
Cheapshot- the 3M RCs in question (39002/PI-II and 05933/PI-III) are much milder than people might assume from the names. They work fine by hand/PC/Cyclo as well as by rotary.
The FP is too mild to take any defects out of the paints *I*'ve used it on, at least by PC/Cyclo. But I think it would remove mild defects by rotary. By "burnishing" we generally mean just *very* mild polishing, so mild that it doesn't really remove anything you could see with the naked eye. The lowest-abrasion polishing possible, just a *hair* above the friction level of putting wax on with a foam pad. Probably about the same as using the SSR1 with a finishing pad and no pressure on the machine.
