PC and the new Xirallic paint

50th yr

In an earlier post I talked about the new paint process on the 50th Anniverary corvette. The question I have now is the use of a pc on this paint? I believe the new caddy along with other models will be using this process. The owners manual says not to use a machine polisher as it will dull the finish. Has anyone used a pc on the new ae or know of anyone doing it and with what results? This new paint process will be a challenge to detailers.

Is the paint ceceptable to swirls? If it is who knows what one would use to remove them (assuming a polisher is unable to be used). If this is the case I would dred detailing a car with this type of paint!:scared

BTW, Nice car!

If it were me I'd contact the paint mfr and ask what the safest procedures would be for detailing.

I'd never heard of this stuff until your original post. Since its limited to the Vette I'll bet there aren't too many people who have seen this paint let alone done some detailing on it.

If you get a good response from the mfr please post it so we all can learn something.

It was also mentioned that the clearcoat was tinted as well.

I doubt very highly the new paint is the issue as it is clearcoated. However, if the clear was tinted, then that could potentially cause problems with buffing etc. The mentioned that tinting the clear gave the AE a very very deep wet appearance.

However, I would highly doubt any large auto manufacturer would use a paint / clear combination that would be difficult to buff. Considering all the issue's in manufacture, it would nearly impossible for the repair guys on the floor not to be able to buff out marks. The line operators commonly scratch vehicles as they get in and out of the car to complete their jobs.

Can't wait to hear from Ron what Ron's response will be.. it's been a long long time. Too bad really, we have a very very good source of information.

Excuse the ignorance, but who is/was "Ron" and why was he banned?

Ron works for autoint if you go here www.autoint.com you can read about the company. Im not really sure why he was banned. Some people here don't like him but I haven't seen any of those people step up to the plate and offer the info he did.

He know's alot about the chemistry of automotive products.

I am sure he could offer info about this type of paint.
