I am considering buying a Porter Cable 7424XP polisher. I am not sure what polishing pads to buy for this. Can I get the quilted "foam" pads for this machine? I have attached a pic of the pad. Also are there any tips and tricks or guidelines for the 7424XP polisher, that may tell me a bit more about things like what speed and polish to use?

Those pads will work fine with a 7424XP; you'll just need a 5" backing plate to use them with.



Those pads come in anything from 4" to 8.5". I, along with most others here, recommend the 5.5" variety which come in 6-packs for $34.99.

A good start would be 2 orange, 2 white, and 2 gray pads just to have some variety.
