Paste Wax with PC

I just purchased some Pinnacle Souveran paste wax. Just wondering the best way to use paste wax with a PC. Any tips will be appreciated.

micnic - I haven't used PS paste wax with a PC but have applied other waxes such as Meg's #16 and #26 with good success.

I simply appply the wax to a finishing pad using a small yellow foam applicator. . .

I run the yellow pad over the wax till I have just enough to spread over about a quarter of the finishing pad. Do this 4 times so the circumference is "lightly" coated. (You'll get the hang of it after a few tries). This will ensure coverage of a panel at a time. Since you're using PS paste wax you can remove immediately.

The operative word here is "light" application of wax. After a few panels you won't need to add as much wax as the buffing pad will have had several "coatings" applied.

Actually it's a good way to apply paste wax as it ensures an even, light application. This technique works especially well with #16 which doesn't like a heavy handed approach.

Should be a "piece of cake" !!!

I dunno...I do about 99% of my paste wax by machine, but Souveran is one product that even I do by hand. Since it's a w-o-w-o product, I think you're gonna be setting down/picking up the PC so often it'll drive you nuts. Heh heh, when *I* do something by hand, well, that's a clue ;)

If you want to try it, use very little product on a finishing pad. I'd probably pop the wax out of the jar and rub it on the pad (watch that it doesn't crumble and fall on the floor), otherwise use some implement (I use a rubber spatula or a plastic razor blade) to transfer some from the jar to the pad. Rub it into the pad a little so the pad is uniformly "primed" with wax. I'd use speed 3 with Souveran (I usually do paste wax at 4-4.5). Don't "work" the Souveran much, just enough for full, *and uniform* coverage. Do one panel at a time. Wipe it off before it really dries or else you'll have a real workout getting it off.

I use #16 with a finishing pad. To get the #16 onto the pad, I use the back end of the PC wrench and butter the pad like a piece of toast. Just a little bit goes a long way, and spread it around. But make sure your PC wrench is clean.

Hmm, lotsa ways to apply wax to a pc pad. Never tried it so just curious, seems to be so easy to apply a paste by hand, expecially using one of those foam pads with the blue foam handle. I'd think the extra time spent spreading wax on the pc pad would undo any time saved applying to paint.

I've had the best results applying Pinnacle paste by PC with a finishing pad. I think I am able to get a thinner coat doing this, and I do a whole section of the car at a time. My biggest issue is spillage. While I try to smear this wax on the pad, occasionally some will end up falling off and it seems a shame to waste this expensive product. To date Pinnacle paste over AIO using PC for both is my favorite combination on my Jet Black BMW.

Some reasons why I do it by machine are a) I prefer the motions of moving the machine back and forth over the motions of working it with the applicator (just a personal preference)- it's not really about the amount of time but rather the nature of the effort, b) I believe I get better coverage and thinner applications what with all those orbits-per-minute, and c) some waxes like #16 seem to work a lot better by machine; #16 does its "turn liquid" thing better by machine than by hand.

gearhead, I really understand where you're coming from. This is why I have a rotary (Makita 9227C).

Unfortunately, I also understand where Accumulator is coming from. It seems to me that the PC will take a small amount of wax and spread it better than you can do by hand.

I like the Mother's pure paste wax and I went through an entire 12oz can in less than 7 months (for just one car)... If a PC can spread it thinner, I figure the can will last me over a year.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a PC... but then I'm also planning to buy an ETG-1... :p
