Paste vs. liquid

Is there any difference or is it just personal preference. I'm going to buy some Turtle Wax Ultra Gloss and i need to know if there is any difference.

Thanks!

Personal preference really and the type of wax you want.

Some say paste are more durable because it contains less solvents but some of the paste waxes people are using now (P21S) don't last as long as good liquid waxes.

If you're layer ontop of a synthetic wax, then I'd go with a paste. Less solvents.

Does the turtlewax ultra gloss contain any abrasive?

If it does not contain any abrasive, then i might just go with liquid.

i think the TW Ultra Gloss is a cleaner wax. So it contains solvents or cleaning agents of some sorts to clean the paint first. As for abrasives, i doubt there are any serious abrasives in it. But even if it did ... the abrasives would be in both the paste and liquid forms. Solvents however (stuff that makes the solid wax stay in liquid form) would be in the liquid, not the paste.

Its up to you really. Which you like to apply better. Both should *look* the same, but the paste *might* last a little longer than the liquid.

Flip a coin.

Both liquid and paste will have solvents in them to make the wax soft enough to be applied to the paint. The paste just has less solvents. All waxes have solvents in them, even the non-cleaner waxes.

Can't pastes have a higher concentration of carnuba in them?

Yes I think you are correct because unrefined carnauba is very hard so with paste being harder than a liquid, then probably. I always favor a paste, esp #16 and its tin size because with one or two twists, I get even coverage on the WHOLE applicator (Viking blue foam with handle).

Yup that's what I use to apply #16. :D

I just tried the paste last weekend, side-by-side with liquid NXT. (Ultimately wound up doing the car witht he NXT and not Ultra-gloss, but that's a different matter)

Honestly, the paste went on and came off smoothly enough that I'm not sure what advantage you'd get from going with the liquid, it's certainly not going to get much easier to use.

Given that, I'd buy whichever one is more cost effective. I got the paste to try because it was on sale. I didn't love it on my metallic paint, but I'm going to try it on my GF's non-metallic white next.

I like using the liquid instead of the solid most of the time just for plain ease of use but the solid is suppose to hold up longer then the liquid..............................ONE another note I LOVE that viking appy(BLUE) with the handle REALLY A GOOD PRODUCT

how would i apply wax using a PC? Sometimes i feel as if i'm not putting enough on the pad as if all the product were going into the pad, instead of the paint.

It will be more concentrated since you have less solvents. Is there more sugar in a spoon full of sugar water or a spoon full of damp sugar?

Liquid vs. Paste of the same wax, the paste will win in durability.

Depends on what paste you pick though as they're are liquids that are more durable than some paste waxes.

If you're applying with a DA, then go liquid. I've seen pics of taking the brick of paste wax out of the container and rubbing it on the DA pad to apply. I wouldn't go to that much trouble though.

I personally like pastes because i think you use less product. With liquids, i always feel like i dont have enough on the car/applicator, where with pastes i feel like they go a lot farther. For example, it seems that liquid #26 doesn't last nearly as long say, a tine of #16. Now, they aren't exactly the same, but i think pastes use less product when you're applying, thus buff off less and waste less. Just My opinion.

How it seems might not be how it really is. IMO puttig the wax on a PC pad isn't really different from putting it on a hand applicator. What I see is that most people put *way* too much on the PC pad, more than on the hand app. Also, if you put too much pressure on the PC, you might be driving the product up into the pad before it transfers to the finish.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Prime a water dampened pad with a QD it will help put a thin layer of product and not waste it to the pad

~Hope this helps~
