Paint Rubbed Off?

Hey all,

I was just removing residue wax from in between panels. I was rubbing gently with a little QD and a microfiber and i managed to rub some paint off. It is now peeling.

I have a 10 month old 2004 Acura TSX. Is this the sign of a bumper repaint? Possibly something done at the dealer before I took delivery? Or does this happen?

That should not happen on a 10 month old car. Could be a reshoot or a problem with the factory paint. I'd take it back to the deal and have them deal with it. Should be under some sort of warranty.

That's what I thought! By the way it looks I am fairly certain that I can peel quite a bit of paint away with my thumbnail. I am no professional, but by no means should the paint peel off even with a good ammount of pressure right?

If they did paint it, they did not disclose this information to me at the time of purchase. I beleive they are able to do this if the repair is under a certain dollar ammount. Any have any idea of what this ammount may be?

I have the service manager's e-mail address from the Acura dealer I purchased the vehicle from. I am going to take care of it as soon as I collect more iniformation.

my 04 acura rsx came with a dime size dent on the rear quarter panel, and they fixed/repainted 1/4 of the car because of it.... and it was maybe 3-4 weeks after the car was taken home... they are usually good, but i guess it depends on the dealership... either way thats not normal...

My recomendation: Go back to the dealer, show them the problem, and let them fix it.

It's completely irrelevent whether it's factory paint, or a reshoot. Peeling paint on an almost-new car is not acceptable, and the car is still under warranty. The only way for paint to peel like this is a defect in materials or workmanship - which is exactly what the warranty covers.

More advice: Don't be a smart-aleck, don't go in red-faced and angry. Most Acura dealers are sincerely concerned with their customer's satisfaction (as CSI numbers have a direct impact on their financial relationship with the factory). They'll take care of the problem - I'm certain.
