Paint, no clear.

Hey, my uncles asked me to revive his Camaro, that he had shot about 2 years back. The guy screwed him over and didn't shoot any clear, so the paint has faded and oxidized quite a bit.

I went over there today and checked it out, it's quite faded. I took some stuff I had laying around, Meguiars Rubbing compound on the PC 7242XP foam finishing pad(I just got the machine, and didn't want to ruin any other pads, so I took a chance with that pad). It brought the red up to a pretty good finish, nothing amazing, but significantly better.

Will 205 do anything? I'm not sure the difference between the rubbing compound and 205, I figured 105 would remove too much. The pad turned a little red after about 4 passes, so I'm pretty worried about taking too much paint off.

Also, theres some white splashup from the road lines, and they can't seem to get it off via washing, what would be good to take this off?

Thanks guys.

That is called a single stage paint and not a 2 stage (base coat then clear coat). IMO I would first try an AIO like klasse or maybe even poli-seal then top it with what ever sealant you like best. What you are seeing is oxidation which is absolutely normal on a single stage paint. Red single stage tends to oxidize worse than any other color. Top it with something very durable to help lock in the shine and keep it from oxidizing as fast.

Awesome, I got some 205 due in from AG tomorrow. I've only got a white pad, so hopefully that'll do the job. I've got Poli-Seal on the way too, so I'm good to go.

I will add two bits of advice that I learned while bringing up an older Porsche 911 last year with single stage paint.

1. Have LOTS of pads on hand.

2. Have an assistant to wash pads for you on the fly.

I think I had about 6 pads going doing that car and 2 helpers keeping them clean for me!
