Paint Cleansing Product Question!

I bought a pair of cool 3M vinyl decals for the Fiat. I am having a professional install them on Monday. He mentioned it would save me time if the car was clean. Obviously he doesn't know me!

I have a coat of PB PwS topped with a coat of Dodo Juice Wax. I own a bottle of (never opened) P21S Paintwork Cleansing Lotion. Would that take off the wax and sealant? Thought it might be good to give the car a quick wash and use the lotion on the bottom on the sides of the car to prep for the vinyl.

Good idea or no?

I would say no. Reason being that even tho it may remove wax and sealants, it may leave some fillers and polishing oils behind that may make the decals not adhere 100%. While that paint work cleanser is fantastic prior to wax or sealant application, I would suggest something in the tune of Prep-Sol that will remove all waxes/sealants/oils and whatever else may be on the paint.

IMO just have the professional clean it that way he knows it is prepped correctly for the vinyl. I had the white 3M stripes put on my Camaro and I would rather trust that he did prepare it properly then assume that I prepped it correctly.

I am an amateur when it comes to body work but if memory serves me correctly Prep-sol is what is used for wiping down bare metal in preparation for paint, not sure if it would be to harsh on paint or not. I believe when my decals were applied prior to installation an IPA (ISO-Propyl Alcohol) solution is what he used.

Here is a link. It is ok for paint. Been using it for years in body shops on paint.

I think what he meant was a general washing...

He's responsible for ensuring the decals adhere properly and I suspect he'll use a surface cleaner to remove any sealant, wax, or silicone that might be present...
