Paint Chipped Off

While I was parking at a resturant I had my friend spot me as there was limited parking and the best spot was to back up into the space. Well, she was waiving me back and long story short she didn't stop me in time and I backed into a lamp post with a concrete base. My rear bumper hit the concrete base and chipped pieces of my paint off (the area is approximately 2 inch wide and 3 inch high). Not the entire paint came off but just small pieces in that area and very noticeable. If I use touch up paint, it's still going to be noticeable with the size of the area especially when you look up close as you'll probably see little dots from the fill in. Is there anything I can do besides getting it repainted. I was thinking buffer (PC) but if the paint chipped off, will it work? Any info would be appreciated! BTW...it's a '03 black M3 and I keep the paint meticulously clean. TIA!

A polisher is ment to polish paint. If there isn't any paint to polish, then it isn't going to do much for you. I think we would really need to see pictures to know for sure, but the kind of damage you are talking about is typically a repaint job. From similar damage that I have had, I would say it is a $300-ish job to get redone. But again... pictures are pretty much necessary to know for sure what can and cannot be done.

If the paint is actually gone, then it has to be replaced and repainting is the only way you are going to do that.
People often talk about guys that can airbrush small areas like you are talking about, but I have yet to find one of those guys. Maybe someone on the site will have had some experience with the airbrush guys.

FWIW, I once had an entire quarter panel repaintd to fix a paint chip about 1/2 the size of my little fingernail.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll try to get some digital pics. I guess at this point all I want is to fill and possibly try to blend it as much as possible so it's not too noticeable. If I go the route of touchup paint, do you think using the PC after it dries will help smooth and blend the paint with the original. I know it won't look exactly like before but I just want to try to "Hide" it as much as possible for now. TIA!

You won't have much luck 'hiding' it with touch up paint. Unless you airbrush it then it is going to stand out like a sore thumb. Touch up paint is good for thin scratches and chips. It isn't that good for anything that requires more than one application of paint to fill it in. If the car truely is your baby, then I would leave it in the hands of a professional.
