In my family's garage, we have the following cars:

2002 Toyota Camry, pearl white

2003 Mazda Miata, black

2000 Acura TL, metallic silver

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, metallic green (i think its metallic, forgot)

1997 Mazda Miata m-edition, green (friend's)

To my understanding, the first 4 are clearcoated while the older miata is not.

What are the properties of each (paint is hard, soft, thin, thick...)? Thanks

Well, I can possibly help with one of them. If the '03 Mazda is anthing like our '02 Mazda, it'll have pretty hard clear.

I thought my miata's clear was hard as well when I first used the pc. I just didnt have much experience to confirm. Thanks for your input.

anyone else?

canisestinvia...? Or, canis in via est?

You road dog, you!

The M-edition Miata is clearcoated. Red, black, Mariner Blue, early white (there were two whites) on the NA Miatas were non-clearcoat. The yellow was non, and the British Racing Green was non.

All the NB Miatas are clearcoat.

The NA paint is pretty soft, including the clearcoats.

I haven't found the single stage NA paint to be especially thin; I've pounded on mine pretty hard, actually, and it's still red.

Thanks for all the miata info. I visit miata.net along with this board, so it's nice to see familiar names. What is your opinion on the NB's clearcoat? Do you have any experience with it?

others please chime in on the paints of the other cars
