Has anyone heard of these guys and have anything good/ bad to say about them? I'm looking to start up my own business in a few years (after my wedding and the fiance gets out of school) and would like to be able to add some services like paint repair and alloy wheel repair, etc. to my line up.

The Paint Bull

The some what scruffy guy with the anceint astro van isn't doing much for thier image..

Rip Off Report:Paint Bull Ripoff Lied To Me...

Here are a few items I found on Rip Off report. I don't discredit them immediately for having anything on rip-off, hell if you have a mortgage, go ahead and serach your mortgage company... See what I mean.

Lastly, does anyone have any other (better?) options for paint repair training and similar services?

TIA

I had some work done by a guy using the Paint Bull system about 7 years ago. It OK at best, not something an autopian would be really happy with. The quality without a real booth is just not there.

Granted there are bad reports about anything online, it seems like the ones above had some significant issues. I'd try calling a few Paint Bull franchises out of your market area and asking their opinion, maybe offer to send them a GC for dinner or something for their time to talk it out with you on the level.

Check out Rightlook.com

Wow, thier site is about a hundred times more professional. I think I'd be much more interested in persuing something with them.

Do you have any personal experience with them salty?

I would never use Paint Bull. I contacted them twice via their web submission forum and never heard anything back. Contacted them once by phone and the guy I "...needed to talk to." was out of the office and would call me back. The guy never called back and that was probably over 8 months ago. They are semi local to me and I was looking to learn PDR but I won't be using them now.

Besides some phone calls, no. They are very professional.

I am interested in some of their services, but not at this time.

I am a little surprised to see all the negative press that the Paint Bull guys are getting here. I purchased a Paint Bull system back in late 2002 and was very happy with the customer service I received from everyone. So much in fact that I purchased another system several months later with all the money I had made from using the first one. I did have a problem with the Canadian distributor (who was actually not part of the actual Paint Bull company - just a sales guy that acquired the rights to sell the system in Canada) and once I called Jason the general manager with my concerns he immediately took over my case personally and made sure I was fully taken care of. In my opinion thier system is top notch and the people that work for Paint Bull are very friendly and helpful.

I went to Paint Bull to learn PDR as an addition to my detailing business and have a decent opinion of them. What makes me say that is that their setup is a decent one if you are willing to go the extra mile.

Their classes are small and intimate. The instructors are very good at teaching their methods, but once that method was taught, they didn't have the ability to see what you were doing wrong and mold it to what they wanted. Much more like a college professor than a gradeschool teacher. Problem was that I needed a gradeschool teacher (and I've seen this work done for years by contractors I use - I pretty much knew the process)

In their classroom, I was able to get dings out (not easily, or quickly, but very well), and was ready to hit the ground running when I got home. I couldn't practice for over a week because my tools hadn't been shipped by them on time and one of the important tools (a reflective board) wasn't the same as the one we learned on. This tool being different, and that week made it surprisingly difficult to get back into the swing of it. It was a five day class, and we didn't learn a type of ding because our instructor had to go on the road to do work.

I don't remember what I paid, but it wasn't cheap. With hotel, airfare, class, tools etc, it may have been as much as $6000.

If I had preordered my tools, and was able to practice more when I first got home, I would say it was worth it.

I've contacted them about going back (years later) because of that last day, and they contacted my quickly about going back in.

Contact someone in the field out of your area who would be willing to train you.

expect to pay for a hotel and a few k. remember you will be slowing their work down.

You wont get fluffed with info and tools you dont need, most important that I have found. Schools are a controlled environment. you need hands on practice working in the elements.

Well I'm in the detailing and paint bussines for years, recently I founds this company on the web and thinking in my soon I make contact. They was very friendly and send me everithing about clases and prices, very expensive by the way. I think it's expensive for the time they give on class and the money I have to expend on training.

I know pait techniques and I really belive paint without paintbooth it's really por and if you think a little price against quality you have a problem. I have many friends and customers at the time with antique cars and really, I can imagine make a touch-up without paintbooth just no way!

First think what really make you happy and try in that way but paint on the streets are not good for customers and enviorement.

God bless you in your dreams my friend.

Avoid this company. Their paint systems are $8000 - $10000. You get about $1800 in materials for that money. Follow up support is poor. They don't return phone calls. Most of their money is made selling Standox paint refills.

Also consider that PaintBull will not advertise their prices or allow you to email them without providing your address and phone number so you can be called/direct mailed. VERY aggressive marketing is their priority, not training and support.

I know Paint Bull. I spent approximately $25,000 and almost a month training five years ago and started a complete dealer services reconditioning business and it was one of the best things I've ever done. They have guarantees and warrantees so I find people with complaints haven't called for help like they should have. I looked at MARS who have a similar deal but coupled with a franchise and more guarantees which make it much more expensive, also rightlook in san diego, which does a good job but are former paint bull employees. I wanted to control my business and not share my profits with a franchise and am proud to still do business with Paint Bull because they are competitive, have the highest quality products and they make me money. Why do you think so many people are critical of them? It's the only way they can compete. (*****, Inc. *** *** ****)

I have no personal experience with Paint Bull but I will speak up for Rightlook.

I took one of their training courses last year with a co-worker and was very impressed with their top-notch facility, professional training staff, and drive to help you with your business. Their service over the phone is excellent and I plan on spending more time in San Diego at the end of the summer as the detailing season slows down.

I did some training with Paint Bull. I had no problem with them. I was planing on taking 3 different courses from them but dropped the paint touch up because I wasn't going to be able to spray at my location. I took the interior repair and windshield repair courses. I enjoyed it and I'm glad I went. I went in the paint booth during lunch one day but didn't get to see much of what the class had done so I can't say much about it. But as for paint bull itself I think its a good company. I was there 2.5-3 years ago.

Hi guys,

I have been a mobile paint tech for 15 years and it is possible to get bodyshop results. The materials they use are great, but the problem is that the people doing the repairs are new and in most cases untrained. The training program is only a week at best. Paintbull uses Standox paint which is owned by Dupont (good stuff). While we are on the subject let me give you some advice about Rightlook.com. THE PAINT THEY USE IS SHERWIN WILLIAMS AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! Ask anyone who owns a bodyshop. I know because I used it when I first started and the color match is terrible! If anyone is interested in learning to start a painting business email me, but if I decide you have the ambition to really learn this business the training will take at least 3 weeks. I will show you what you actually need to do the repairs the right way. I don't want your hard earned money wasted on these people. I do not sell paint or equipment or training material. I will show you color theory, painting technique, and the differences in paint systems (e.g. balanced, unbalanced, water based). Once again I will only do this if you are really ambitious. I hate to see all of the negative comments about mobile techs. If anyone has any questions about painting just email me I will be happy to answer any questions. By the way i'm a PPG Master Painter (takes 10 years) and Dupont A Certified.
