Pads - Sonus/LC vs The Edge?

Ok,

I do apologize for asking this if it's been done before. I try to search on several forums before asking these questions.

I will be buying my own DA polisher in a week, and frankly am at a loss for which way to go on the pad system.

The Edge system looks marvelous and has some nice advantages, but it does rather lock you into a solution. The hook and loop pads seem to offer some nice flexibility.

So my question is this:

If you were starting out, had no investment in either sytem, and were NOT doing this professionally, but maybe 8-10 cars a month which system would you prefer?

The biggest drawback I can see with the Edge system is that there are no spot pads. I can't find any 4" pads at all, but my guess is that since there is no backing pad, they expect you to be able to get into tight spaces with the normal sized pad used on edge. If this isn't correct, someone let me know.

Since I will be using the Porter Cable and not the Flex or Makita, I just won't be able to turn those nice 8" Edge pads effectively, or at least I don't think I would.

So please give me your thoughts. I'm gathering up data for this order next week.

Some people think the Edge pads are a bit heavy for a PC. Most like the 5.5 inch LC pads as a good size. 4 inch are great for compounding.

You can buy 4" pads for the Edge system, they are just called cyclo pads..check out autogeek under "cyclo pads and accessories" i believe...but anyway i have 2 sets of them so i know they exist :) I just got the 3M conversion kit for the flex 3401, so i have switched to the edge system...will be buffing a black car this weekend so i will be able to tell how i like them. To be honest, and I may be terribly wrong here, but i think most if not all the pads are comprised of very similar foam (if not the same).

I've seen the cyclo pads before, but wasn't sure if they "worked" on the Edge 2k system. If so, then that's nice to know.

I've heard marvelous things about both the Edge pads and the Sonus pads. Going to the Edge stuff isn't that big a cost premium. Just the $20 adapter which is no biggie. If I can pop on 4" pads and the 6" normal pads then that's a superior way to go, rather than having to switch backing plates with the hook and loop setup on the PC.

In fact, that Cyclo pad deal may just be the deal tipper toward the Edge pad system. Lemme go look at that a bit more closely.
