Pads in the dryer?

GOT PREP?
Anyone ever tried this? I used *every* one of my pads last night detailing a porsche. I just got a call from the local Pontiac stealership and they want a solstice buffed tomorrow (they are bringing it to me). I need my pads dry *now*. My typical routine is wash, spin dry with rotary, air dry. I am thinking of putting them in a garment bag and placing them in the dryer on "ultra low." These are mostly Meguiars and SM arnold pads.

Thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. :)

after using my pads for an extended period of time they get kinda hot to the touch and nothing bad comes from it. I wouldn't think throwing them in a low heat dryer would have any ill effects because of this.

have been drying my pads in a dryer for the past year. I have LC pads and Propel pads. have seen no ill effects form this practice. I probably have dried them five times in the last year. I also wash mine in the washer. Pinnacle or Micro restore as the detergent. Gentle cycle for both washer and dryer. However it is not a practice that i do on a regular basis. If it is a one time thing I am sure that you will be fine drying your pads to get you back to work.

A spin dry on the PC has always been good for me. After 30 seconds to a minute, they're no more damp than when I prime them with a squirt of distilled water.

never had any problems with my LC pads in the dryer, but i have had 1 of my megs pad with the velcro separating about a half of an inch in the center after a few washes. now i only dry my LC and sonus pads in the dryer.

Spin dry with your rotary setting on a trash can or bucket...If you want the dryer, lay out a towel and set soething on top of them...nothing heavy to compress just enough to let the towel draw out moisture.

Rotary dry is usually just fine for me. The mildly dampness of them allow the sometimes stiff (depending on what cut the pad is) pad to be more "work-able". I like running them through with my MF laundry. They come out very mildly damp. I would think this would be fine.

what i usually do is first wring out the pad to get most of the water out. Then i place the pad on a microfiber. After that, i roll up the microfiber tightly when then will get out the remaing water. i place the micro on one corner of the micro, then after i wring...put it on the next corner....after all i said and done i have rolled it 4times with one micro and the pad is ready to use

I dont usually put mine in the dryer but when I do, it's on regular heat. The dryer automatically stops when everything's dry and I haven't had any problems doing it that way. Although if you have a few in there they'll pile on top of each other and might get into a funny shape.

Don't you wet your pads with a bit of QD or water spray prior to using it? If so, then you just have to get the backing side of the pad dry throughly. Do a spin dry in the washing machine with the pads arranges so that they are squeezed flat by the centrifugal force of the spinning drum. After that, just air dry with the backing side up. You'll find in the morning that the backing is dry, while the pad material side is damp and ready for use.

I think that getting the pads absolutely dry serves 2 purposes. To store for long term so that you don't have mould growing on your pads, and 2nd to prevent the backing material glue from breaking down.

Thanks for all the tips guys, I dried them last night on low witghout issue.

I like my pads totally dry to start with, I do not prime them with anything other than product. When I have tried to use pads slightly damp, I aways get sling. I also feel that it makes the product more aggressive, this *could* be a good thing, but I like knowing what the polish can do on its' own.

At any rate, I am about to go buff the red solstice in my driveway. :)

Pontman43, I really don't know, they just started calling me. I guess a referral of a referral of a referral told them about me. :) They don't really have detailers around here, they have cleaners. Buffing a car means applying wax by hand, allow it set up, grab rotary, buff off wax @3000 RPM's.
