I'm going to purchase the new GG random orbital. It says it's a 6' buffer, does that mean only 6 inch pads work or can 5.5 pads work?

you can use 6.5" pads as there's 6 inches of velcro loop to accommodate the stock backing plate that comes with the GG6. i would pick up a 5" DA backing plate and get some 5.5" flat pads...

Agree with what Al said. Even though the GG has the power to rotate larger pads you'll get better results with the 5.5" pads. Keep in mind a six pack of 5.5" pads is $15 less than a six pack of 6.5" pads so with your first purchase you save enough to buy the 5" BP then you save $$ each time you buy more.

Which pads are people using these days? SHould I just get HD pads since i'm getting their polish or what about the LC pads?

jw- Note that there are a lot of newfangled pads coming out these days.

But I like Meguiar's MF cutting disk for serious correction. You could do a lot worse than just using GG's orange polishing pad after the MF cutting disk does the heavy work. That GG pad will finish out OK on most paints, but you could burnish things a little with a finishing pad from Lake Country.
