Pad aggressiveness - Sonus vs Megs

I've got the Sonus Orange, Green and Blue pads, and also the Megs Polishing (Yellow) and Finishing (Beige) pads. I was just wondering in what order people would rate them in terms of aggressiveness? I was thinking (most aggressive first):



Sonus Orange

Megs Yellow

Sonus Green

Sonus Blue

Megs Beige



What do other people think? And also, where would the Megs cutting (Burgundy) pad go in that line up?

Here is my opinon on your question!



Sonus Orange=Harder than any other pad I have ever used



Sonus Green=Megs Yellow



Sonus Blue=Megs Beige



I find that the Sonus blue pad is very soft. I don't think it would work good for removing swirls with it, I find it to be good for a final polish or wax/sealant.



I've tried other pads, for me the Meguiar's polishing pads have the perfect mix of stiffness, and flexibility to get around the curves of the body. So that is why it is my go to pad of choice.



I find the Red pad to pointless for my needs. And I have heard a couple of highly recommended detailers aon here saying that the red pad used w/PC can cause marring in the paint.



List of my favorite pad choices:

--Cutting pad: Lake Country yellow 7.5" concaved cutting pad

--Polishing pad: Meguiar's yellow 6.5" polishing pad

--Finishing pad: Lake Country gray 6.5" finishing pad
 
I have not used either of them, so my opinion doesn't count really. However, the megs polish pad is regarded as less aggresive thatn the propel green, and the propel green is regarded as very close to the sonus green. That would be my only change.



The megs burgundy would be more aggresive than the sonus orange, as the Megs pads users often comment that there is a big gap between the yellow and burgundy pads.

First off, I'm not saying that they are exactly the same, I'm talking close to one another.



Hey Alex, the Meg's red pad is no where near as aggressive as the Sonus orange pad. Trust me, there is a huge difference, the orange pad is a lot more aggressive!



The reason that the Sonus green and propel green are very close, is because IMO they are the same pad. I recently got some Propel pads, and they look exactly like the sonus pads. They have the same feel, design, and velcro backing on them. That would be why they are regarded the same!

I found the Megs burgandy pad much more aggressive than the Sonus orange. As a result I don't use it any more. I found it dulls down the finish too much.



Although the Sonus orange *feels* firmer (different type of foam), the Megs pad has more rough cutting power.



Megs discourages using it with PC.



That has been my experience, anyway.



Its interesting about the Propel = Sonus green. I wondered about that after seeing the pictures. :cool:

I was very surprised at how hard the orange Sonus pad is when I opened the box !



Think I will practice with that pad on some old panels first :up
 
I guess you guys could be right about the Meg's red pad, and Sonus orange pad. Maybe I am substituting firmness for aggressiveness. It has been a while since I used the meg's red pad, and maybe the new Sonus pad isn't as aggressive as the original one!

The orange feels firmer because it is a different foam. I may be wrong about this, but I think the orange foam comes from Germany. If you notice they usually sell for a bit more than other pads in the same line (Propel, Sonus DAS, and LC).



Although they feel much firmer they are less aggressive than the "softer" yellow cutting pads. If a polish pad (green Propel, green Sonus DAS, white LC, Meg's 8006, etc.) isn't quite aggressive enough to remove defects, then an orange pad is a nice step-up before moving to a yellow cutting pad.



I use Meg's, LC, and Propel pads. I would rate the Meg's yellow (8006) pretty close to the green pad, just a bit less aggressive. I never have used the Meg's cutting pad because Meg's does not reccommend it for use on a PC, and too many others, like Alfisti, have had problems with it causing a lot of hazing.
 
CAn I give you guys a tip with the orange pad? Get it wet, wring it out, spin it dry! It does soften up after a initial break in period......
