P21s Wax residue - how to get rid of it?

each time i have waxed with p21s i end up with residue which looks like streaks/swirls in the sunlight (the direction will change with the way you wipe - therefore this is residue not micro-marring in the clearcoat). i have pinpointed it as the wax since i have used 2 different kinds of paint cleaners (last time was p21s gepc) with the same results. wiping with microfibre does remove it slowly but it requires alot of rubbing... in both circular (which i hate) and back and forth motions. i washed the car this morning which helped again slightly but the residue was still present.

Is this a known issue - what can be done? .... love the fact that p21s wax doesnt stain, takes the elbow grease during the application and wipe off stage... but getting rid of this residue is becoming a pain.

appreciate the advice!

Hi Rai Welcome to Autopia! :wavey

My initial thought is to use a PC with a pad covered by a microfiber bonnet and at a speed between 2 to 4, go over the car with it. Sprtizing each panel with some qd during this process may be helpful too. If you need to, follow with a complete wash.

What Bill D said, plus think about why your product is streaking. There are two rules to follow when using P21S, never apply it in direct sunlight and don't use too much. A little goes a long way. Also, are you letting it dry to haze before removing it or are you wiping it off as soon as you apply? The reason I'm asking is because you will get the same results both ways and it's a lot easier if you wipe it off immediately. If all else fails, go back to what Bill D said to do.

guys thanks for the replies. i only ever polish, clean and wax on cool panels and don't allow the wax to dry (i don't don't think i apply it too thick.. though may try application with the random orbital next time).

i just went and had a go agin (unfortunately under direct sunlight otherwise i wuoldnt see if i was getting immediate results) - appears by using a coarser microfibre cloth spritzed with distilled water worked. though still a little too much elbow grease for my liking...

yeah, remember P21s is a wipe on, wipe off wax, follow that procedure using it sparingly, one panel at a time.

the results (Menzerna IP/FP-II applied with random orbital and farecla foam compound pads + P21s applied by hand):

 WOW! Nice Audi! :up. I have an A4. Tell me more about the farecla pads. Seems to be an obscure brand. How do you like the pads? Do you use the compounds? I hear Farecla may be the thing for hard clears.

Keep up the great work!

Something just doesn't sound right. P21S is one of the easiest carnaubas out there, right now. Another factor we haven't mentioned is humidity. Down here in Louisiana, the humidity is a killer and it can really make detailing hard.

Definately try removing using a MF bonnet on a PC. Using a little QD wouldn't hurt either. This method works well for me when I'm removing S-100 and they're essentially the same wax, just a different price.

I just gave my s100 away because it would leave a haze.I would wax and then remove with a microfiber towel and pull into the sun and check to make sure I removed it all.The next day I would notice a film or haze on the paint.I put it on the shelf for awhile and just tried it again, but I had the same results. For me, if a product dosen't work to my style of doing things I find one that does!I don't like products that need tricks or tips to remove.

I agree with the haze results. I think this haze is just a result

of the wax curing and setting up. It has always has gone away

after a wash or two for me.

First few times I used S100 it worked "normally." Recently I've been using it as a topper for NXT, and it hazes like crazy, but only on top of the engine compartment. I'm assuming heat has something to do with this even though the vehicle was cooled down for a day before application. Although it's apt to return once in a while, most types of QD seem to remove it with no problem. A bit annoying at worst. Still looks fantastic IMHO.
