P21S Paintwork Cleanser Questions

KAIO is great for a cleaner/prep that can be used as a base for anything. If theP21S/S100 products do contain a glaze, (which I'm not too sure of), it seems like they would be a better product to use with a wax rather than a sealant. I have only used S100 SEPC under S100 Carnauba and it did a great job. KAIO under S100 did a great job just as it does under UPP or any other wax/sealant that I have applied after the KAIO. Because of the universal application, I have stuck with the KAIO. Fortunately, oxidation isn't a problem on my vehicles so I can't comment on that from personal experience.
Jngrbrdman has some pretty good pictures of what can be done with KAIO on an oxidized red pick-up. I'll try to find them and post a link.
Here's the link.

Charles - You're a Champ! Thanks much for your help...

I've used KAIO a bunch in the past, but never to fix problems. Results have always been very good, and I love the product. A couple weeks ago my boss approached me to see if I could help him get his wife's recently purchased 1999 white mini-van looking good (said it needed a lot of help - no shine, dull, but no major scratches or swirls). To make a long story not so much longer; I agreed and immediately thought a good paint cleanser, some clay, an OTC spray wax line EO Nanowax, etc... would be a good plan (I live 160 miles from work, so it has to be a plan that he can do himself). So I started researching P21S and Pinnacle cleaners - not once did I think about using KAIO. I ordered some P21S while I have plenty of KAIO on hand. :bawling:

Oh well, P21S cleanser is a good product and I'm sure it'll work out well for him, and I'll keep the KAIO all to myself (maybe I'll start on my daughter's yucky '99 Saturn sometime soon with the KAIO).

Again, thanks for your help!

Well I'm not sure how a product could remove water spotting, reduce swirls, and remove embedded contamination (as the product description for GEPC claims) and not be able to remove oxidation.

And it is definitely an oily product that leaves a slick finish and fills imperfections. Sounds like, looks like, and feels like it contains a glaze to me.

I actually like this stuff. I smeared some on a LC Final Finishing pad with the PC on like 2 or 3 and did half of a car with just one application. A little spreads a long, long way. Even by hand it spreads a long way too. It also looks great on black. I think of it as a paint cleaner along with a glaze. I've always topped with P21S and it turns out very well.

Yep. Chemical cleaner, light abrasives, and glaze. One of the best over the counter products out there (the S100 version is available at most Harley stores thats why I consider it an over the counter product.)

This past weekend I used the p21s cleanser on my wifes Dark Green Liberty that has a number of minor scratches on the hood. I did 1/2 AIO & OCW and 1/2 P21S Cleanser & OCW. Can not tell a difference between the 2 sides whats-so-ever. The minor scratches were still present, which I hoped the glaze from the P21S would have helped. Also, I did not see any difference in glossiness, etc, between the 2 side.

Question regarding application: The P21S cleanser does not have real thorough instructions - (in a nut shell) it says rub on, then remove. So, that's what I did without letting it haze. Comments regarding this?

I usually don't let it haze...but if you do, it's still very easy to remove. I've had similar experiences -- it doesn't remove swirls, but then again, it is a paint cleaner, so I wouldn't really expect it to do much in the swirl removal department.

P21S GEPC is very mild. The abrasives are not going to remove scratches and swirls. It works well after a more abrasive polish to bring the shine back up. This is why it didn't remove the minor scratches because it's not supposed to. Neither will Klasse AIO. As for filling, GEPC will fill minor defects but it's not a pure glaze like 3M Imperial Hand Gaze so don't expect miracles from it. I have never been able to really fill defects that well with any product any way. Even pure glazes don't do it for me. I find the swirl filing claims of products to be exaggerated big time. The glaze in P21S is great for shine and wetness though.

As for how to use it I just apply with a MF app. I work it in and buff off. If I feel it needs it I repeat until I get a smooth, glossy, and slick surface to apply a LSP to. This is what GEPC is, a pre wax cleaner. It also works well as a final polish to bring up the shine after a more aggressive polish.

Thanks!

I'll play with it some more this weekend and try to get a glossier finish and top it again with OCW. I don't expect the product to do miracles; just thought that being part glaze it would hide some of the small scratches (not really bad at all - would pass a 3 foot test).
