OXO feathered tip wash brush

Any particular reason why nobody uses the OXO brush on the upper part of the car's body? If it does not cause scratches, can I not use it on the roof and on the hood?

Just asking.

groucho- if you want to use a brush on those areas I'd sure go with a BHB as opposed to something with synthetic bristles. There only seem to be a few of us who can wash using a brush without marring...and even *I* don't use one on my "good" cars these days. A foamgun will help keep the marring down though- spray the suds through the brush to flush away the dirt as the brush dislodges it. When dirt sticks to the bristles, that's when you get marring. Unless you're using a synthetic brush with bristles that have worn down to where the flagging is compromised, then you'll get marring no matter what.

Thanks for the reply Accumulator. I do use a mitt when I wash. I was just wondering if I could use the brush on some stubborn spots. I get the feeling that I'm just rubbing the dirt of said stubborn spot deeper into the paint if I used the mitt with it. And I began asking myself, would the brush be any better if I used it to agitate the dirt a little bit?

But then again, I could always count on the cleaner/polish.

I also have the ergonomic wheel brush Wheel brush but I feel its still too rough on a chrome aluminum alloy wheel( which my Harley Davidson F150 has) so I have been using a cheap MF mitt to wash wheels. I just fear that the brush will scratch the chrome. What should I use on cleaning chrome aluminum alloy wheels?

I've used the OXO wheel brush for years on my Ford Taurus's chrome wheels. You won't have a problem with it on your F150's wheels.

Groucho- I sure wouldn't rub with *anything* except clay (with lots of lube). When I have a spot that won't come clean with *very* gentle cleaning, I just clay it. Generally, the brushes aren't gonna be any more aggressive than a mitt unless you press so hard that you'll mar the paint.

Chrome is harder than the clear that's on many wheels ;)

I used a flagged-bristle "wheel and grill" brush from TOL until it marred the wheels on one of our Audis. If I sound like a real [pain] about these brushes it's because I've had to replace wheels over the damage they can cause (yeah, I probably could've just had them refinished..). And I was replacing them regularly, just didn't replace that one soon enough.

I oughta just butt out of this thread before I offend somebody, but I'm really just :scared that people are using these things on paint, including the clear on wheels. Sooner or later a bristle tip is gonn wear down and do some real damage. I don't even use such things on my undercarriages, but then I don't go off-roading either.

I have a stupid question. How do you guys compare the OXO brushes with the New England brushes? Which are better? Which are more durable?
