over the counter cutting products?

There is no cure!
are there any over the counter cutting products that would relate to products such as ssr2 or ssr2.5... im willing to go over the finsh again with ssr1 on a polishing pad. i dont have time to order ssr2 for tomorrows detail...
 
how abrasive is that 3m fine cutting compound. this is a 2003 745Li with swirls and scratches everywhere. ssr1 wouldnt take em out...
 
also. would it be effective using a light orange cutting pad or should i use that compound with a polishing pad?
 
The 3M rubbing compound I got at Pepboys was more aggressive than SSR2.5 - I don't recall seeing fine cut on the label though. :dunno Maybe not the same product but I can look at it this evening and let you know.
 
If you have access to 3M they are light cut compound that is a good cutter and also they have swril removers for light and dark colors. I have used them all and they work in simlair to SSR line up. I have used the swril removers with cutting pads with great results.

Expand your options over the local chain store like Pepboys by checking out Body Shop Supply distributors. Many sell to the public in an OTC set up. They should have what you need and a whole lot more.
 
Just know that the 3M line SMR's 5996 and 5995 I believe are swirl hiding..
Also called foam pad glazes..they don't really remove the swirls...these are more filler type prodicts that fill in the fine scratches and swirl marks...
Just visit a good 3M site and check out the MANY MANY different 3M products and what they do...

There may be some reason I am missing that no Meguiar's products have been mentioned. :dunno
Meg's #83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish with a polishing pad can do a lot to remove minor defects.
Start out at 5 or 6 on the PC and reduce to 4 or 5 after a minute or so. If you work it till it is almost transparent, it should leave the paint ready to wax or seal. I have gone right from DACP to AIO and then UPP with good results.
You should be able to find the DACP locally.

You'll probably be able to find the Meguiar's Professional Line somewhere around you. They're pretty good.
 
I agree ... Meguiars DACP is not quite as abrasive as SSR 2.5 but it will do a good job.
I have seen it at Advance Auto ... most auto supply stores that supply body shops, stock Meguiars products.

It is more agressive than SSR2.5, I don't know if it is more agressive
than ssr3 sincee I don't have that. It can be used with either a cut
pad or a polish pad. Using with a cut pad will work out the deeper
scratches, while using with a polish pad will work out the deeper swirls.
Be forewarned, that this does dry rather quick and will dust up on you,
so you may need to rewash the car after you use it.

Afterwards if you feel, you can followup with the ssr1 with a polish
or finish pad.

Hey im new on here and I have a question for you. I have been detailing cars for a couple of years now and ive always gone to Autozone or like wal-mart but never to pepboys. Do they carry more products than those other places? Also what are these UPP, EX-P, or EX products everyone raves about? I've never heard of them. I have always just used the basic meguiars wax and Zymol but i need to learn more about other products. Any help is well appreciated. Thankyou
 
Break out the phone book and start calling local body shops and paint supply stores. Have a short list of items that you are interested in. You may be surprised what can be found locally. But with the price of gas what it is it may be just as well to shop online. I found S100 paste wax 42 miles from here and by time I figured the price of gas it was cheaper to order online! Of course if you gotta have it like now then you gotta do what you gotta do to get it.
